Fair price of brake pads

I've just talked to my dealer over the phone and was quoted $680 + tax just for the front brake pads to change and about the same for the rears. Total of almost $1500. I find it a bit expensive. Is this a fair price or should i just go to midas or similar brake shops and get other name brand brake parts (ferodo/hawkins etc.) I am not mechanically inclined with very limited time to spend fixing the car. Anyone in the same situation as me?

It's a huge rip-off! You can get a full set of pads (Ferodo DS2500) for $275, and that's not the cheapest option. For putting them on the car, I recommend finding a local friend that can help you. It shouldn't take much more than an hour for your first time.

yeah, brake pads are a piece of cake after the first time. Read the manual, do it carefully and then your life will be sweeter from then on

*asking someone to help you the first time is cool too

brake shops and dealers in general are a total rip off! IMHO

+1 on the ds2500's
never ever experienced brake squeel on these brakes, even after a day of 130 miles on the track.
my brother has the hawk's hps, and complains of brake squeel every once in a while.
