Which tire to replace stock 046? The Falken RT615 or Yoko A032
First I'd like to say the stock tire are alsome. Turnin, Grip, and streering responce are great. These tires remind me of my old Falken RT215 {except for the grip the Yoks are better} I had for my 99 Maxima. Boy I miss that car. The tire size I ran was 215/45/16 for auto-x. I ended up returning them for my Bidgestone S-02 225/50/16 the OEM tire for the S2000. Those tires were great. Probably the stickest tire from bridgestone since the old school RE71. No wonder the stock S2000 handles so well.
Now back to my delima. The tire size I was looking at was 245/45/17. Consencus on this site is that size is just too tall. I was wondering if I could get some feed back from anyone who has the Falken RT615 in 245/45/17 size. How do they compare to the stock Yoko 046? What pressures are you running? What kind of driving and what kind of supension uppdates have you done? How long have you had them? How long did it take to break them in? Do the sidewalls seem as stiff as stock? My IX MR is stock except a works intake and muffler.
I was also looking at the Yoko A032's H-comp in 245/45/17 for a daily tire. Has anyone tried this? How is the turn in compared to stock?
Has anyone ran the Bridgestone 050A? I was ready the Tire Faq and the review seemed pretty nice. The thing that confused me on the Tire sticky is that Bridgesone has 3 different 050 tires. There's the 050, then there is 050A, and finally the 050A Pole Position. In the review it lists a 235/45/17 for the 050A but on Tirerack there is no listing for that size for the 050A. There is one for the 050 PP.
Has anyone ran this tire? If so what size and what are your impressions of the tire?
Thanks your help. So many choices. i've already been researching this for the last 4 to 6 weeks. It sucks that our car uses such an odd ball tire size.

i've been using the 032r this summer for track days. used them some on the street... THEY ARE LOUD, noisy tires. i've been using the s compound 245/40/17, perfect size for my stock rims. tirerack has 245/40/17 032r at a great price but i think in the s compound only. by the way they have been great track tires for me. very sticky, a little stiffer than the 046 i think. i have been very happy w/them.

615's are even taller than stock. I use them as track/autox tires and I really like them. The A032's are R comps and will just eat themselves up on the street. They are also much more expnesive. I like the 615's and also have a set of Michelin PS2's that I use as a dd tire.

I run the RT615s in 255/40 on the stock rims. If you think the sidewall on the stock tire is stiff, you got to check these out! They are really sticky as well. The tire is surprisingly quiet, very little road noise but that can just be because they are new.

I use the 615's in the 245/45/17 size for street driving only and you don't give up a thing compared to the stock Advans (on the street). Slightly better in the wet (tested in tropical storm conditions!) and less noise than the A046. Turn in is just as sharp once break-in is complete and they look "right" compared to the 255's which look too wide IMHO. They seem to be wearing quite well too but I took the time and $$$ for a professional alignment at a race shop. The only thing that concerns me is the additional weight of the tire. With the extra 3% height, I was expecting a slight increase in gas mileage (I daily drive mine) which I did not see in city driving, only on the highway where I had a slight improvement. I've been running 34psi all-around. I didn't notice any change in ride quality.

I have another suggestion. I autocross with the 245/40/17 Bridgestone RE-01R. It's brand new and super sticky. I have driven the stock Advans, the 615's and RE-01R's and prefer the Bridgestones. I think the turn in with the Bridgestones is more like the A046's than the 615's are, and the grip is better than the Advans and 615's. TireRack recently tested the Bridgestones vs. the Advan Neuvo and found they were nearly identical. Most STU Evo racers in my area use the RE-01R's. Plus the 40 series gives better gearing for autocrosses because the Evos gearing is too tall for autocross.

Thanks for all the great replys. This type of info is what i was looking for.
I also considered the Bridgestone RE-01R's. They look like they might be a great tire. Bridgestone looks like they might be trying to become #1 again. I still remember the RE-71. Those were great. The S-02's are great also.
From what i've seen the new RE-01R are about equal to the new Yokos AD07. But according to the GrassRoots street tire test they are not as good as the RT215 or RT615.
The thing is I'm really enjoying my stock tires now. The down to 3/32 or so. The turn in and steering response are great. The traction is alsome once warm. I'm going to miss these. I only hope my repacement are going to be as good or better.
What do you guys think of the hankook R-S2. I tried them for my max but I wasn't too impressed with all the side wall flex but when pushed hard they didn't roll over as much as my S-02's did {both tires were on a 16x7.5 rim in 225/50 series}. My friend at Discount Tire says the 17's be different.
Is any one running these?

I recommend not worrying about 245/45s and going with either a low mileage set of used A046s in 235/40 or the 255/40 RT-615s. I am rocking these now, since I want brand new ones for half the price, and they have performed amazingly at both the drag strip and road course. My race tires are V710s, and the RT-615s are not really that far off...

Another great tire you may be able to find a bargain on (as take-offs) are the OEM STi Bridgestone RE070's. Many drivers throw them away for craptastic all seasons.
They have substantial durability as I had close to 20k miles on them and half a dozen track days and they delivered every time. It's a 245/45/17 so the footprint will be a hair narrower, but that will increase turn in response, stiffen the sidewall, and reduce tire temps at the track just a bit. Great bargain if you find them lightly used. I still have my set and will use them up once the A046's wear out. After that I'll like be going with the Azenis 615's for summer/track duty until I get race rubber on a 2nd wheelset.

STi take-off RE070s are an EXCELLENT choice! While only 225/45/17, they are VERY wide for that width, probably the stiffest sidewall of any tire I know of, and can be had cheap b/c most ppl want to cruise.
