whats the best tire size for 18x9.5?
This is for my weekend car, its not a daily driver, also I already have some 17" wheels for the track, so these would be for show.
I was thinking of going the drift style with 225/40/18 or
255/35/18
which will have less rubbing if I lower the car fenders to the top of the tire, and also good for high speeds on freeways.
thanks guys!

no flaming here guy. I'm running 255/40/18 Toyo T1R with a +35 offset. Lowered about 2.25 in front and 1.5 in back. However, I will soon be buying either another set of T1R's in the 275/35/18 variety or the Maxxis MAZ1 (I believe that's it) in the 265/35/18. As it turns out these tires have the same measured width and almost the same diameter. Plenty of room on my setup to do this. Hope it helps

I dont think you guys have been around a bunch of drift cars, or the dub scene(vw/audi's). the euro guys have always done this, ive seen 215's on a 9.5 wheel.
But I know most evo owners what all the tire on the ground, which is true, but thats why I have a track set up, and now I want a show set up, thanks for all the feedback.
fo life!!!!!!!!!!!

I never really understood that craze...seen it on plenty of cars though. It freaks me out seeing a tire stretched that far as it could easily de-bead at higher speeds without some kind of bead lock.

If you're going to go wide with the wheels, get tires that fit. You should be able to go 285/30-18 on a 9.5" rim. You could go 275/35, but the overall circumference increases.
Every time I see small tires stretched onto wide rims, I just think the owner was to cheap to buy the right tires. It looks ghetto IMO. But then again, I could care less how a wheel/tire combo looks as long as it does its job at the track.

The best tire for 18 x 9.5 rims would be 265/35/18. It will be the exact match as far as matching the stock tire diameter and keeping the speedo accurate. I have done some research on this subject and have found the perfect tire for this rim. The New Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Positions with UNI-T in a 265/35/18 has the same tire diameter, has a 9.8" tread width versus the stock tire's 8.6" width, has a 10.8" section width versus the stock tire's 9.4"section width. If you kept the same +38mm offset as stock, for the simplicity of this explanation, then you would be splitting the difference between the two sizes. For example, in the rim lip area you'd be adding .75" to the fender side and .75" at the strut side. For the widest part of the sidewall area, the section width, you'd be adding .7" to the fender side and .7" to the strut side (10.8 - 9.4 / 2 = .7"). For the tread width area you'd be adding .6" to the inside and outside (9.8 - 8.6 / 2 = .6"). Going from a 235 width to a 265 width in this brand of tire, you're only increasing the tread width 1.2" and if you're splitting it evenly by going with the same +38mm offset as stock, you're only adding slightly over a half of an inch of tread width at the outside edge where the tire meets the fender area.....as well as the strut side. I think with this brand's 265 width, you could easily get away with a 9" wide rim instead of a 9.5" which would help in the reducing weight department. If you compare the specs on the Tire Rack between the stock tires and these you will see that the New RE050A pole positions match the cornering and steering response of the A046"s and exceed the A046 in dry handling. As far as treadwear, comfort, noise, wet handling and hydroplaning, the New RE050A Pole Positions blow the stock ADVAN A046"s AWAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and they are also cheaper too. I am currently researching the lightest 18 x 9 wheels that I like.
