bedding in stock pads?
Just got a new evo about 2 weeks ago. Everything is great, except I'm not thrilled with the braking which is surpising.
Used to own an Evo 5 a couple years ago with Pagid (RS14B??? - i forget) and then Porterfield R4 pads. Car stopped well, although warped rotors like most 5's and 6's of the day. Had Kumho V700's which certainly didn't hurt anything.
Just recently had a 1g DSM. 93+ dual piston stock calipers, AEM 12.5" two piece slotted/drilled rotors, and first Porterfield R4E (screech) and then later Carbotech Panther Plus pads. Falken Azenis Sport tires. That car stopped stupidly fast.
So the current beef with the Evo brakes is pedal effort. You've got to push pretty damn hard. Maybe I'm just used to more aggresive pads, and stickier tires.
A bit confusing as the dealer tells you to go easy on the brakes for 500 miles or so as a break-in period. Typically with new pads I go through some sort of bedding in process which is generally some sort of baptism in fire. I'm going to guess the dealer didn't do this. And now I'm supposed to wait 500 miles?
So to the point... Anyone notice a decent difference in braking once things are broken-in a bit more? Anyone hear of a bedding process for these things? With the Evo's tendancy to warp rotors, I'm a bit gun-shy to go out and get things piping hot just yet.
Anyone's thoughts or experiences here?

i have to agree... or maybe i'm just being a bit too easy on the brakes... it feels like a lot of times the car doesn't want to stop...
i had to have my front pads replaced, as the day i took delivery i saw a 1" thick circle on the left front rotor that the pad was not contacting... there was actually pad transfer, so they overnighted a new set of pads, and had to resurface the rotor because there was no way that pad was coming off...
maybe after the break in when i'm not afraid to clamp those bears, will it feel better... i may upgrade to stainless lines to get a better feel though...

A quick check on the brembo site told me that to bed the brakes, go to a remote location (I used the highway when there wasn't a lot of traffic) and brake for 3 seconds using light to moderate pedal effort. Then drive about 1/2 mile and repeat this. They say to do that 30 times (with varying pedal effort) and then drive for a few miles without using the brakes so they can cool. I did this and noticed an immediate difference. I continued after that to go easy on the brakes for the rest of the break in period and now, at 700 miles, the brake feel is awesome. Hope this helps.

Glad to hear eventually you're happy with the brake feel. i looked around on the brembo site though and couldn't find anything. could you post a link to what you found?
Will get out and put some heat into the things at some point soon. Thanks.

the bedding period has to be done from new... you can't go out and try and bed in a set of pads that have 500 miles on them...
i clamped mine pretty good today, and i can feel that they are going to grab like hell once i clear the break in...

Here's the info I found. I guess it was technically not the brembo site but the info seemed to work.http://www.drivewerks.com/catalog/pe...rembo_FAQ1.htm
Good luck.

I did three to four 100-20 stops in a row or untill you feel the pads fade a bit. Once I did that I drove for a few minutes with out using the break much to let it cool off. Then parked the car and went to sleep. ( be sure not to set your parking break as the brakes are still hot and you may warp the rotor if set.) The next morning my brakes worked much better and Dusted less. Hopes this might help.

fade at track day
I bedded my brakes in by taking it easy for the first 500 miles and then applying some hard braking and letting them cool down. Went to a track day this week with 1200 miles on the car and had real brake fade problems after the first 4 or 5 laps. It was a hard braking course. Don't know if it was the pads or the fliud. Did a few slow laps of the parking lot to cool the brakes and went out again and still had the same problems. Should I be looking for different pads or fluid? Watcha think guys?
