Help - Alignment Question Evo vs Lancer
My car is at the local goodyear now.
They say the alignment specs are the same for an '06 Evo MR as an '05 Lancer?
I had read on the forums here that the car doesn't come aligned very well, so I took it in. When I got the car back, it pulls to the left on the highway. I looked at the printout, and at the top, it says Lancer '05 16' wheels. I was like wtf!!
I brought it back to the shop, and they are arguing that the specs for my evo are the same as the specs for a regular lancer with 16" wheels.

They could be the same, who knows. If you want a good alignment take it to a performance oriented alignment shop and give them your own specs. On coilover equipped cars I usually run 2.5 degrees negative camber in the front and 1 to 1.5 degrees negative camber in the rear with zero toe front and rear. On a stock car I would get as much negative camber as possible on the front and the rear as close to negative 1 as possible with the same zero toe. Lots of negative camber with zero toe is nice to the tires, lots of negative camber and slight toe out eats tires instantly. Toe in front or rear makes the car numb and it will tend to push. Most manufacturers give the car a little toe in front and rear to prevent idiots from wrapping the car around a tree.
What exactly are the specs of your alignment?

Alignment specs are pretty universial. For the street, you generally want zero to a little bit of toe in on the front and a tad of toe in on the rear to keep things stable. On the factory suspension, there's probably not much you can do about camber, but for cornering I like around -2.0 degrees on the front and maybe -0.5-1 on the rear for a street setup. Of course, that's dependent on your suspension setup. Also, I dont' think caster is adjustable on stock suspensions. Track alignment will probably be different.
Uh, short version, just check your toe and camber settings.

That sounds like a really good alignment for a car with no suspension mods. They gave you a tiny little bit of toe-in on the rear to help with stability. From those specs the car shouldn't be pulling at all, make sure you weren't riding the crown on the road when you felt it pulling. With a lot of negative camber (you only have a small amount) the car can catch a groove and feel like it wants to dart around. My car is really bad on old asphalt freeways with a high crown. I like to get on a concrete freeway in a flat level section to check if the car is pulling. Concrete does not crown like asphalt.

The specs are not the same. I had the same problem with a "national chain shop". You need to find a local shop that specializes in suspension and alignment work. A shop that sets up cars for track use.

btw, the dealer warranties alignment up to one year and less than 12,000 miles free. I hope they replace the tire if there is substantial wear. have to check it today.
