Lightest 17x8 rims that fit
I looking for anyone who can confirm that any of the lightweight 17x8 rims will definitely fit on the Evo. According to the tirerack, the SSR Competitions (14.3 lbs) come in 17x8 with 38 mm offset and the Superleggeras (16.4 lbs) come in 17x8 with 40 mm offset but they say these will not fit.
If anyone has tried one of these rims or another lightweight rim in the 17x8 size, which one was it, how much did it weigh, and did you have to do anything to get it clear the brakes (i.e.-spacers). Thanks.
BTW: I know there are some topics on this right now, I am trying to make a list of rims that people have already fit on the car (i.e-actually mounted and driven on them).

I think there are a lot of us in the same boat. Hopefully, I'll be able to verify the fit of the Volk LE28N by next weekend. In the mean time, here is a summary of my research into wheels in 17x8, 38mm offset, and 114.3x5 PCD (all are forged unless otherwise noted):
5Zigen FN01R - listed as 6.6 kg on some sites, 6.0 kg on others. An e-mail from Team 5Zigen USA says 6.0 kg and that the wheel will fit. Good luck finding it though. Lowest price found: $440 at shopresponse.com
Racing Hart CP-035 - 6.30 kg. Couldn't find anyone who had it in stock in our size & offset though. Lowest price found: $445 at wheeloptions.com, methodmotorworks.com & wholesalehyperformance.com
Volk TE-37 - Approx 6.8 kg. Thought I was getting a set of these, but they fell through. Lowest price found: $445 at wheeloptions.com, not in stock though.
Volk CE28N & LE28N - Approx 6.5 kg. I have a set of LE28Ns on the way, hope they fit. I ended up paying about $550 from speedalliance.com, though wheeloptions.com had them with a 33mm offset for $480.
Weds TC005 - 6.75 kg. Lowest price found: $485 at wheeloptions.com, not in stock though.
Enkei RPF1 - 7.1 kg (cast), $250 at whalentire.com
Enkei RPM2 - 7.9 kg (cast), 35mm offset, $225 at discounttiredirect.com
Buddy Club p1 QF - 6.15 kg, but told by wheeloptions.com that it won't clear our calipers
SSR Comp - Approx 6.5 kg, but won't fit without spacers according to wtz
And if you've read this far and you are a vendor with a web site, answer your friggin' e-mail! I sent e-mail to a zillion .com folks selling wheels and only got a handful of replies. What is the point of having a flippin' web site if you don't answer your e-mail?

looks like we'll all be rolling around on Volk's if we want to change the wheels...
not that that is a bad thing... just gotta make sure we don't all have the same ones... i'd like to get a set of the LE37t's...

If you run the SSR Comps with the 5 mm spacers up front, how many turns of the lug nut can you get with the stock studs? I know wtz said he changed to the longer studs but that seems like a pain to do. I have H&R spacers which have the lug nut extenders but I would prefer to not use them. Previous research into this has suggested that to be safe, you need to get at least 7-9 full turns of the lug nuts to have the wheel securely attached.
wtz, if you're out there reading this, let us know how many turns you could have gotten on the stock studs and also, how difficult was it to change to longer ones? Thanks.

Mackin Ind. (Volk) used my car to test fit about 8 - 10 differnt rims. They took notes and have the data if you contact them. Upgrademotoring.com has a sale on Volks for 15% -20% off. Ask for Glen, tell him Rick told you, Glen has a good relationship with Mackin.
I know that there are TE37s and CE28s with special spoke designs to specifically clear the Evo's brembos
Hope this helps.

My LE28Ns finally arrived. As I covered in another thread (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=23870 ), they were delivered with a +33mm offset, not the +38mm I thought I was getting. I test fitted them to check clearance and while they clear everything okay, they don't clear by much (4mm by my crude methods), so I would stay away from +38mm in this wheel. I'll try to get some pictures posted once I get them on the car...
