Just changed new tires and stearing wheel shakes

I just replaced my stock tires with 255/40/17 using the same stock rims. The tires are BF g-force Sport. There is no rubbing of any kind but the stearing wheel shakes a lot around 70 miles per hour or faster. What do you guys think of the problems? May be the balancing is off, or the tires are not completly round, or the tires are just too big and heavy? I will take it in and have them check the balancing.

Same thing happened to me. I got new tires, they were balanced and I also got an alignment and the steering wheel would shake a little bit around 65mph-80mph. But now it's gone. I have no idea why either

Could it be the fact that they are too new and need time to break in? Thanks for the fast respond BBYBruno

Yeah thats a possibility. The tires might be wearing themselves in. Just wait maybe a 1,000 miles and see.

"But officer, if I drive it below 80 then I get this bad vibration. I HAVE to drive above 80mph."

I switch between 2 sets of tires/wheels often - 245/40R17 for the street & track, and 235/45R17 for autocross - and I'll notice some steering wheel vibrations depending on what tires are on what end of the car. I'm guessing it might be a combination of a slightly unbalanced wheel and odd wear pattern for the current position (running more camber up front than rear). I've also got to believe going to a wider tire is going to bring a slightly different feel. I doubt it's any problem with the tires themselves as long as they are new.

I have them changed at America Tire, so I will call them tomorrow to express my concern and will wait about 1,000 miles to see what happens.

A little impression on the new tires (BF G-force Sport 255/40/17). Not too many people have used these tires. They make the ride softer and the car feels slower than the stock tires. I feel like I am drivi WRX all over. It is what I want for my daily drive, softer and a lot less noise, 340 treadware, look big. I will try to get some pics later

I went back for rebalance and all 4 tires were of balance. This is only two days after the installation. I was like WTF. I have taken it to the freeway yet. We will see if it is fixed.

99% of the time, when the steering wheel shakes....it's off on the balance. If you take it to a Discount or Big-O, you take your chances.

The wheels might not have been put back on properly. Pull the wheels off and when you put them back on, ensure that the bolts are perfectly centered in the openings in the wheels when you tighten the lugnuts.
