SSR Comp-H in 17x8.5 - why won't these fit?

I found these SSR Comp-H wheels on sale on Tirerack's site when searching for wheels for a 2003 Mustang Cobra. They are normally around $400 each, but are on closeout for only $179 each since SSR went out of business. Sure seems like a pretty damn good deal considering they weigh only 15.9lbs each.

I'm wondering why these aren't listed under the Lancer Evolution application on Tirerack's site? They are 17x8.5 with a 5-114 bolt pattern and 31mm offset. The specs are all inline with other aftermarket 17x8.5 wheels for the Evo, so why won't they fit? Does it have to do with the shape of the spoke not clearing the front Brembos calipers on the Evo? That's the only thing I can think of...

Here's the link:

SSR Comp-H Silver w/Machined Lip (listed for the 03 Cobra)

Now compare those specs to the Gram Lights 57S which are listed for the Evo. The bolt pattern is identical and the offset is only off by 1mm. So why do the SSR Comps not fit and the Gram Lights do?

Gram Lights 57S Bronze (listed for the 05 Evo)

Thanks for any help.

Mike

I just called and got his voicemail. I'm still trying to figure out why these are listed for the Cobra and not the Evo...

So why did Neal @ the Tire Rack just tell me otherwise and say they won't fit the Evo?

They used to list this fitment last year for the Evo. There's only so many ways you can make that wheel and the spokes are the same thickness. We'll see by Friday.....they're coming in for me. (also have a set of Type C in 18's that are 31 mm offset and they don't hit the brakes.)

I actually just talked to tirerack....they said the centerbore is too small to fit evolution. So you are going to have to machine the center of the wheel to fit an evolution hub. At least thats what they told me.

I feel bad for the folks that bought em. Let me know if they do fit I will be the first in line to buy em.

That's odd, since they use Mille Miglia aluminum hub rings to match the hub bore. I know mine are coming w/ the rings.

Also, the stock Mustang bore is 70.1 mm. Ours is 67.1 mm (or something close to that), so when they say that the bore is too small to fit the Evo, somethings not right.
