Winter Tires...Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D

Since I drive the EVO year round, I don't even want to try and drive through the snow with the stock Advans.

I was looking into purchasing the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D in the stock size. They got good ratings on www.tirerack.com but I wanted to see if some of you EVO guys and girls had any personal opinions.

Also is it bad for the tires to come on and off 2 times a year. Off for winter and on for spring. I only ask this because of the stretching of the rubber that takes place when taking the tires off. Rubber can stretch obviously, but I just like to double check.

Any other winter tire recommendations?

I put on Dunlop Wintersport M3's two years ago this fall, took them off the first summer and then ran them through this summer figuring to wear them out. Well, the tread looks nearly new. So, WOW!

I hope they don't quit making these in OEM size because I want another set in the future so I can continue running them year-around and not having to swap. BTW, great snow tire and not too bad in the heat either. And a rally car should have knobby tires - it just looks right.

Well I just ordered these today and should have them Saturday. After speaking with a personal friend at tire rack he said that the Blizzak LM-25 are the best in snow and ice, but for more all around dry/wet/snow the M3's are the way to go.

Thanks for the help fellas.

i am in the same boat, should I get the same width? 235 seems too wide for snow tire.
Should I get 225/45/17 or even 215/45/17? will 215 be too narrow for the 17x8 rim?

This is my third winter on these tires in the stock size and I have not had any trouble getting around in up to 8" of snow. I will be staying with the stock size when these tires need replacement.

The Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D

I am thinking about buying the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D. I think it is a fairly new tire and I also read the reviews on tirerack.com. I am going to be driving from San Diego to Maryland sometime in December so I will definitely need a good tire and I even compared it online to the blizzaks and it seems better to me on paper. I think if it is as good as the reviews said thats what i will be getting for my EVO IX. Good thread.

I have a set of graspic ds-2's that I want to get rid of. Currently they are mounted on stock evo 8 rims painted gloss black. I used them all winter up in SD and I never had a problem. Their not the best tire for cornering, but in a straight line I never had any issues. Now that I got the big brake kit I have no use for 17 inch wheels, and I would highly recommend these tires to anyone that has to drive in the snow.
