true, but it works very well for the lightweight fr layout of 240's.
does stiffer or softer springs up front help reduce understeer on a awd setup?

We're not concerned about 240s, though. Understeer is inherent on the Evo, and there are multiple methods for correcting it, but those methods differ significantly between the major suspension tuners (Robi, Gerrard, Mueller, etc). In my case, I have 700f/900r springs, so understeer is corrected not by the springs alone but by the whole package - mainly from proper damping as opposed to just stiffening the rear (e.g. rear sway).
