Summer Wheels/Tires... Help me choose

I've been searching EvoM, TireRack, and Google for the past 3 hours trying to determine the best bang for my buck this summer...

This is my first year with the IX... my stock Enkei's are getting Hankook Icebear W300 winter tires, so I'm probably going to get new rims/tires for the summer.

I've pretty much made up my mind on the brands, what I need help on is the sizes...

For the rims, 5Zigen FN01R-C's, most likely in Hyper Black.
For the tires, Khumo ECSTA MX.
(I am on a budget, as you can see... total package is like $1500)

Now, my question is, do I get 17x8 or 17x9 ? I don't necessarily plan to AutoX, mostly just street driving and some trips to the drag strip. Basically, I need to know if it's better to save weight and go with the 8's or widen it up and go with the 9's... I'm thinking for street/drag, the 9's are best, no?

And...

If I get 17x8, do I get 245/45/17 tires?
If I get 17x9, do I get 255/40/17 tires?

Thanks in advance!

i had that same setup last summer, in the 17x9 with 255s and loved them, not great for autox though, drag strip was great though...

Look into some Enkei NT03's. Priced fair for a great all around wheel that i think looks much better than the 5Zigens.

Won't hurt to go 9" and get a little more meat on the ground. 255/40 sounds about right for a 17x9, tons of clearance.

Thanks, looks like 17x9 w/ 255/40/17 is the winner

Last question... will I see any fitment or drivability problems with 17x9 and 265/35/17 ?

Is this perhaps a better size tire for street/drag ?

I doubt there will be much gain from that, and you will run into issues of bending the rims because of the low sidewalls...

If you're on a budget, I suggest checking out the General Tire Exclaim UHP. I think I paid $95/ea for mine on 18x8.5 Enkei OR52s. There will be better drag tires, but I've liked them on the street and you can't beat the price!
