The stock evo tires are some of the best tires I have ever owned. Anything that lasts longer, doesn't have the same grip. Anything that's quieter, doesn't have the same feel.
You either picked up a nail and were driving on an underinflated tire, or you have some alignment issues.

Low tire pressure will cause wear on the outside edges of a Tire.
Low tire pressure will cause a tire to shred also.
Low tire pressure causes excessive flex in the side walls. This creates heat and heat delaminates the tire, IE it shreds.
Low tire pressure is hard to detect on low profile tires, eyeball will not do it, they just don't sag that much. Get a good gage and check the tires at least monthly.

I found this out the hard way when a whole tire got shredded off my friends when we were on the Jersey Turnpike...not fun at all.

This thread is hilarious.
Some spoiled little rich kid doesnt know how to maintain his tires and automatically thinks they are junk.
I would be willing to bet that all of your tires were low on pressure and driving on one with a screw in it didnt help either. Was the one that shredded the one with the screw in it?
Also, what pressure were you running your tires at? If you had outside wear you had an alignment issue for sure, if you also had inside wear it could be a combo of alignment and low tire pressure.
I deal with this stuff everyday, people that blame me for uneven wear on their tires and blame me for them picking up nails/screws/whatever.
At any rate, atleast you are accepting some blame for this and realizing that you do have to do some maintenance to ensure proper tire wear.
Good luck with the next set, make sure to rotate every other oil change and have your alignment checked annualy(depending on milage). Check your airpressure(with a gauge) every few weeks and always visually before you drive. It is a lot harder to spot a low tire when you have short and stiff sidewalls like these cars have.
Good luck, sorry for the book.
