Advan RS 18x9 with 245/40/18 Rubbing???

They wont, it will just move the rubbing to a different spot. The OP is having the same issues as Mitchubishi, the tire is too tall. Its about a half an inch taller. Get a smaller sidewall tire or just let it rub and it will eventually rub that little area away. Its not a big deal and you wont hear a thing anymore.

Anyone have any experience running 255/40/18s without rubbing issues? I was wanting to do this, but now I'm not so sure. The wheels will be +30mm offset, and the car currently has Swift springs on it. I thought it would be okay like this, but after reading this thread I'm having 2nd thoughts. Any input is appreciated! The tires I was considering were the Falken Azenis RT615s, btw. I know some tire brands / models are more prone to rubbing than others even when the size is the same.

I have advan neovas in 255/40/18 and they rub the wheel well liner. I would suggest not buying this size. It would have been nice if the person I bought the tires from would have told me this.

Yeah it sounds like this is the case w/ just about all 255/40/18 tires. I'm going to try 245/40/18s and see how this works. I'll post up the results once they're on. Are you going to cut part of the liner out or something? I'd rather not have to do that, but I will if I'm forced to.

I have 255/35/18's Nitto 555's on 18x9 wheels with a 29mm offset and they rub pretty much all around the car especially the rear when you hit a bump decently hard. Normal driving is fine, but bumps suck. I am definitely rolling the fenders and next set of tires will be a little more narrow.

I have 245/40/18 on a 18x8.5 with 26 mm offset...wtih 3mm spacers to clear the front calipers... I do get fender lining rub up front at full lock. I have issues in the rear though....BUT NOT because of the wheels....my rear suspension cradle is shifted to the drivers side about 1/8 - 1/4 ". the car was never t-boned....it's justa flaw from Mit's that wasn't discovered until I put the new wheels on last week... anyways...the car is lowered on tein s'. From what I can tell, after the suspension issue is adjusted, I will need to roll the rear fenders to be safe... Hope this info helps..

Are you lowered? if, so by how much and what brand springs?

Man, this is confusing me. I just purchased 18X9 Work wheels I believe with a 30mm offset. I was looking at getting 245/40. Should I stick with this size or just get the 235/40? I just think that the 235/40 will be a little on the stretch side. According to the Vendor I should be ok with the 245 but when I go to Tire Rack's site they recommend the 235's. I am currently running Espelir GT srings.

get 245/40/18 tires. just research the tires you are getting. if possible get falken tires because they have a rounded shoulder.

Nice to hear this, this is what I'm gonna try to do. 18x9, 30mm offset, 245/40 Falken RT 615s. Anyone else have this setup? I'm hoping it'll work no (or very minimal) modifications...

The 235/40 will be shorter overall, compared to the 245/40. They will also be narrower. I think a 245/40 is a better fit on the rims, but if you run the math, you will still find that 235 mm is more than 9" wide. Therefore you can run up to 235 on 9" rim, not optimal but doable. The best fit on the 9" rim would be the 255 but that is pretty wide and taller, meaning closer to the inner liner at all points.

So you have your choice...get the optimal tire 255/40 for the 18x9 , and remove the fender liner if it bugs you, or get a narrower tire and maybe it wont rub.

BTW if you look at the stock 235/45/17 on 17x 8 stockers and note the relationship of the sidewall to the rim, then it is easy to see that going 1 inch wider rim should have a ~ 1 inch wider tire to maintain the good balance of rim to sidewall.. ERGO 17 x9 = 255...17x 10 =275 235 on 18x8, 255 on 18x 9 275 on 18x10. A 235 will fit the 9 inch, but at the limit, will tend to slide at a lower slip angle( think unable to move sideways under load due to the stretch = SLIDES more easily period without warning), while the 245 or 255 will generate a higher slip angle before sliding and is more forgiving while doing it ( a good thing )

Not every rim will fit so you take offset/any spacers, wheel width, camber, suspension drop into consideration.

As said before, not all tires are created equal. For a fact. Yoko AD07 in 245/40/17 are wider than some 255's. I think your issue is your offset, and the only way to fix that is with spacers...or you could also have your alignment checked...and possible run 1/16th toe out which will help at full lock. Can you post some pics of your rubbing??? I'd like to see it. Thanks.

This is what I have gathered and what I am planning on getting fron Tire Rack:
Make: General Exclaim UHP. No flaming pls. This will be for everyday driving I have my 17" SSR's for autoX.
OE Specs:
235/45/17 on 8" wheel
Offset:???
Diameter:25.3"
RPM(rev/mile):822
Sec. width:9.4"
Meas.rim width:8"

235/40/18 on 8.5"
offset:???
Diameter:25.4"
RPM:825
Sec.width:9.5"
Meas.rim width:8.5"

245/40/18 on 8.5"

Diameter:25.7"

Meas.rim width:8.5"

I think the 245/18 tire would look best on my 9" wide wheel but IMO the 235/18 will guarranty a no rub/spacer on my 30mm offset wheels don't you think? Also, the 235/18's specs very closely resembles the OE specs. I'm still lost here. I need to make my decision soon. Need help.
