Need tire advice!

Ok so I burned up my tires on the mountain here, I knew they were hurtin on the front end.... my car was pulling a bit so i took it in to get it aligned today, first off... the front left toe was off -.53 inches... which sucks. The guy calls me and tells me my front tires are running the steel....

I'm a pretty indecisive person when it comes to stuff like this because I dont know much about tires.... but I'm in thE Army and in a few months I'm driving from NE Tennessee up to Seattle, and then from there to Arizona for four months, then probably another lengthy drive after those four months. I would like to find a good tire with some grip that wont melt off on a long highway drive.

I do NOT plan on running the car on the mountain any time soon, so that shouldnt be an issue, but I would like grip if I decide to take a corner at a decent speed....

Right now I'm looking at either the Fuzion ZRi's (room mate has em on his R32 and he only got 5k off of them) and the Kumho Ecsta SPT's (are rated very well on Tirerack.com.. like 7th out of 46 in Ultra High Performance Summer tires). Im looking to spend under $100 a tire because I'm moving and I just dont have the money at this time.

Please help out a fellow Evo owner who knows almost nothing about tires.. lol.

Most people that I know that run the 615's say that the handle and grip awesome but the treadwear sucks. And they dont make them in 235/45/17.... so what size am I gonna have to go with?

they make them in a 255/40/17. it's very popular for the stock rim. My buddy just got them and they look mean and he's very happy with them.

You can get them from www.vulcantire.com for 127 each. not bad considering it'll basically cost you an extra $100 for a FAR better tire than anything you're going to get for less then $100 each.......

Stay away from the RT-615. I don't understand why everyone wants to recommend them when they have poor wet traction and very poor service life. They guy said he didn't want them burning up soon. That's just a waste of tire and money if all he is getting out of them is highway miles.

If you want great treadwear look for something over 300. I have the BF Goodrich Sports and the traction on them is great and treadwear is 360 so they'll be good for nearly 40K miles. I had Federal SS595 on there last and they had almost 40K miles on them when I changed them out with decent tread still left on them. Best of all they are less than $100 at www.tiresavings.com

Don't waste your money on ultra high performance if you're going to be cruising on the highway a lot. Stick with something that has great treadwear and good grip. Anything more will be a waste of money.

Thank you for reading my post. Like I said.. I'll be driving from NE TN to Seattle, then to Arizona and probably back to Seattle and then back east in the next 6-7 months, so I didnt want something that was going to burn up real quick. I'll look into those BF Goodrich's that you talked about. Thanks again!

I just ordered some mastercraft Avenger ZHP's from www.tireseasy.com

I havent gotten them yet, but I ordered 255/35/18 and it was only 363.00 shipped for 4 of them! They have a treadwear rating of 280 or 320....cant remember. But hell, if I burn through them in 15K miles, oh well. I didnt spend 900 on them, so I can buy more! Just a thought!

I think you'll like them, I've got about a 1000 miles on mine and they are great for public roads.

BF Goodrich T/A KD is about the same. You're not gonna find a tire that soft and grippy that lasts any longer. Look at treadwear, temp and traction to compare tires.

Tires is one thing...however they aren't going to correct the wear prob..Having toe at .53 aint happening...You need to get your alignment straightened out first..then the tires will wear well--as for the tires go with something with longer tread life...remember that longer life tends to make them hard so they will tend to grip less...just a thought.
