All i can tell you is that if you look around, the vast majority of us with big rims and tires for racing are using 285/30-18s on 18X9.5. The reason why we're not using 17s with 275/40-17 tires is because they are too tall and don't fit well enough for racing.

i am running the NTo3 m set +38 mm 275/40 17 an i had to run spacers up front and in the rear. 15mm up front and 3mm in the rear. the front was suppose to fit without spacer and only needed fender mods but i had to run spacers to clear the coilovers. in the rear i ran a thin 3mm spacer is because the tire was touching the lower control arm so i put the spacer in so it gives it a little clearance away from it. but all and all the wheels fits pretty good +1 for Robispec for hooking me up with the wheels. i was thinking about picking the RPF1 17x9.5 with 38mm offset as my street tire track setup and was wondering if RPF1 17x9.5 38mm offset and NTO3 17X9.5 with 38mm offset fit the same?????

my rpf1s fit without a rear spacer but need a 20mm up front to clear the brakes
i think mine are a rear drive application as the actual face of the rims sits in and has a sunken in look
so im not sure regarding your question
btw
please post a few pics cos i want to see how it looks
