My Azenis (245/40/18) felt extremely slippery when I first started to take turns at a very low speed. I would give them at least 500 miles and then take it slow from there.

most of what your feeling is the release compound that is applied to the mold so the tires dont stick during manufacturing.

to sum up what has already been said.....

-the sidewall tends to be slightly softer than OEM Advans, with similar overall grip leading to a less responsive but more comfortable ride

-615's work well as a Street/Auto-X tire, but they dont play well with the high temps seen at HPDE/lapping events

-give any new tires about 500 miles to break in & scrub off the release compound

they're still one hell of a value tire... but they certainly have their limits and downsides.
Any tire falls off when it overheats...and after all, it's a street tire, not an R-comp. But compared to other street tires, I would say it's at least as good or better on the track as its direct competition, i.e. Michelin PS2, Bridgestone S-03 or RE050A, Kumho Ecsta MX, etc. Nothing compares to a real R-comp on the track though for sure...

They also work a LOT better when they are worn heavily... down to very little tread.

When I had them on 17x8 wheels ~42/39 f/r hot. Now I'm running ~35/32 f/r hot on 17x9's.

Wish I could justify the stock rubber, but for now, $1,000 per summer/season is more than I am willing to spend :]. No, not purchased for hot lapping. Thanks for feedback though.

Understeer with 4 equally matched tires is a function of the car's suspension geometry, not the tire.

I've never tried those Federal tires, maybe next time I get tires I'll give them a shot.

And to the OP: How are the tires now that (I'm sure) you have a lot more miles on them?
Pretty happy with them :] I do miss the slightly stiffer sidewall/ quicker turn-in of the A046 advans, but what can I expect for half the price :] All in all, for a street tire, I am happy with them for what I paid

What pressure are you running them at?

And to all who posted about the release compound, I believe you were right on the money. They feel significantly better now that I have, lets say FAR more than 500 mi. on them :]

Thanks again to all who gave of their time to post to this.

to get the most out of the 255's running an 8.5 to 9.5 rim will get you the most out of it. the factory 8 in doesn't keep the sidewall straight allowing it to flex. and yeah when they get hot they lose it

I am running the 615's 255/40/18 on 18x8.5 and they seem to stick pretty good. I really havent pushed them to see how far they will allow me to go though. I put about 200 miles on them before I tried to corner fast and I like them very much especially for the price I paid. I only plan on doing AutoX and some drag racing so I think they will be fine.

yeah the Azenis let loose very rapidly when they are hot

i crashed my Integra Type R when i had it a few years back, because i went into a corner at around 80 and back end just randomly swung out on me and i couldnt recover it.

They are great autox tires, or budget summer DD grip tires, but thats all

im personally buying Neovas when my stock tires die
