I have a Legnum VR-4 which has a very similar drivetrain to an evo, AYC diff at the back, W5M51 transmission but a bigger V6 2.5 TT engine.
I'm looking to run 235/45/17 at the front and 265/40/17 at the rear. Tyre calculators say that this is very close in ratio and less than 1mm difference in rolling radius which is surely less than a lot of Evo's out there with same sized tyres that haven't been rotated for a while.
Will this work ok or will it cause problems with the transfer case?

I'm never really too sure where to start with the spec list! It's got Tanabe springs, Autronic SM4 ECU running on MAP, custom piping throughout, cold air box mostly 2.5 and 3", custom downpipes, 600x300x100mm intercooler, EVO 6.5 TME Seats, 255lph fuel pump, EVO 7 Brembos, Wedsport TC-005 17x9.5" 35mm wheels, Exedy heavy duty clutch, stock 3.333/2.105/1.407/1.031/0.761 gears with 4.111 final drive - I'm after a 0.721 5th and 3.73 final drive When I got it it was completely stock, even the wheels, exhaust and ride height were stock! It made 159kw at the wheels, now it makes 225kw, still on stock turbos and internals. Next step will be a pair of GT2554R's, or VF29's or TD05's and I will be shooting for 300kw atw.

as for the tires.. the ayc and the acd have a tolerance level just due to the fact that the fronts will wear out faster than the rears will... when you have a 1 mm difference right now it might be fine... but when others wear out..it will cause it to be more uneven... so in the long run you might have some problems with over heating the diff... i would just run the same tires all around.. that way when the fronts wear.. you can just rotate them... just my 2 cents though

It doesn't have an ACD, it has a similar drivetrain to an evo4-7, and not an evo8 or 9.
Yes it is 4wd and I am a bit concerned about increasing the understeer, but with AYC at the back and the suspension setup that I have it is very well planted at the front anyway.
Moreryce - good point about the fronts wearing faster. On VR-4's the rear camber isn't adjustable and the inside of the rear tyres wears out quickly, so what we normally do with them it unmount the rear tyres and swap them to the other side, and leave the fronts for the duration of their life. The tyres wear down fairly evenly this way. The sidewall height on the 265/40's would be 106mm, while the 235/45's would be 105.75mm which is very close, but ultimately the rears will wear a bit quicker than the fronts anyway.
