I have kuhmo ast tires on my car they cost me 70 a peice, I'm cheap. They are good on dry pavement but I can easily get all 4 tires spinning in the rain.

You must be a serious asshat to call the A046 a mediocre tire. Those tires are awesome tires with extremely high amounts of grip.

Plus 1 on the Kumho MX tire, I ran these tires with 500 whp and driving the car and they lasted 24,000 miles and were about 120-130 a piece....

I will run these tires on every car I own.

I was wondering why he said that the stock advans where a cheap tire....

That has been the best street tire I have driven on in a long time...... The grip is insane

If you have a discount tire near they can get them, I got mine through vulcantire.com, 124 a piece for 255/40-17, and I got 18000 miles out of my stock tires, which were awesome minus the cost, but so far I am happy with the RT-615 Falkens.

i got 27K out of mine! but i ran them all the way to the belts - which i don't recommend.

now i run Falken FK-452s. not much worse than stock in the dry, and a million times better in the rain.

^ Clueless

What's not great about the Advans other than the price? The Advans are top of the line amazing tires - That's why they bring the premium price tag, I agree that you can get near comparable tires for less money but there is no need to say that the OEM rubber is not great. The stock Advans are the bar that every other tire is measured against on a Evo.

Agreed, the stock tires are in the upper echelon of tires and definitely one of the best tires to come on a car from the factory. Tires are a wear item like brakes and clutches. The owners manual even states that the tires will wear faster because of the softer compound used.

The more agressively you use them, the faster they will wear. The combination of the soft compound and stiff side wall give the car excellent road holding capability. You can find tires that are cheaper, last longer, and ride better but few are going to match the handling capabilty in both wet and dry conditions like the Advans.

If you're only interested in going fast in straight line then there are tons of choices out there that will be cheaper. If you're willing to sacrifice grip for longevity there are tons of tires better than the stock ones at doing that.

Get the Bridgestone RE-01R in stock size or 255's if you want. I just got my stock size RE-01R and they are better the the A046 in almost every way. Better in the rain, quieter, as good or better traction, little better wear, and the sidewall is almost as stiff. I believe they are about as close as you are going to get to a R compound type handling tire like the stockers but a good driving tire too. I had a hell of a time getting them through Bridgestone though, they are back ordered everywhere for the stock size so just get them through Tirerack (I was told they bought most of the 235/45/17's)

I may give the RE01R a try next time but I'm pretty happy with the Advan sport in stock size. Awesome grip (wet and dry), softer sidewall, hopefully better miliage, rides like a BMW instead of an Evo and a little cheaper than the stock Advans. Honestly, I still can't figure out how in the hell these awesome tires got a bad review and why anyone believed it.
