factory tires last only 12k miles??????

well i went to get around my 4th oil change today and while they were doing so, they noticed that my tires were wearing, steel threads showing. they said that it was very dangerous to be driving around right now and that i was lucky the tires didn't blow. did everyone else know the stock tires lasted only 12k miles???? when did everyone else replace their tires? now i gotta pay almost $300/tire. btw...i did get a wheel alignment at about 3k miles.

You don't have to pay 300 a tire, you can get better cheaper tires.

The stock ones aren't great to begin with. Plus, like people said, you can get better tires for cheaper; check out tirerack.

i dont know about better... but you can get comparable times...

Kumho MX ( better in the rain, little less in the wet) or Falken 615 (crappy in the rain, in between the stockers and MX's in the dry)

Both of those tires go for about 130 each

Cheers!

Had about 11k on my 03 before trading it, and the stock Yoki's probably had another 4-6k left in them. You might be able to pull more miles out of yours.

I rotated mine often which helped. Didn't baby them but also didn't drive it hard every day.

I am trying the Maxxis MAV1's now, I like them and I paid $330 for all 4 mounted and balanced. Still taking turns at speed and a little squeak from the tires but no colossal loss of grip. The real reason I bought them was because Super Street put a calendar of their tires and some smoking hot ladies in the January issue. At least I am not gravely disappointed with the tire.
