Name brand tires vs. No name brand tires...

Alright well I am a firm believer in going with what works even if it costs more money to do so. I am a fan of brands that have a solid history of making a good tire, they have a good reputation, recieved good reviews etc even if they cost a bit more.

My friend is a believer in buying cheap, no name brand tires that got good reviews... for example... I would rather have a set of BFG G-Force T/A KDW's on my car... he would rather have Fuzion ZR or whatever the crap they are, they got a similar review...

Brand name tires vs. No name tires that got good reviews, why or why not. The thread to end all threads!!!

FYI - Fuzion tires are made by Bridgestone.

I dont trust what "reviews" typically say. I run tires that are proven either by track runs or collected data. I did run Sumitomo tires - actually a really nice set for the money. No name tires to me are those that say Discount Tire sells as their brand - tires are safety - I wouldnt trust my life to something that may/or may not work.

In most cases you get what you pay for. However, some of the smaller manufacturers like Falken and Hankook make some great high performance tires. I have the Falken RT615's on my car right now and when they wear out I'm switching to Bridgestone RE01R's for comparison's sake, but I predict that the only real difference will be better wet grip with the Bridgestones.

You almost always get what you pay for when it comes to tires. You will almost never get a tire that is quiet, sticky, cheap, and last forever. It is always a give and take. While a Michelin tire might boast the best traction and treadlife, a lesser known brand may be cheaper and quieter. Know what you want and always research before you buy. I've been selling tires a while and one thing I have learned is that most name brand tire companies have smaller companies that make tires under a different name. Usually the only difference in some of these tires is tread pattern and price.
