Optimal rim width for 265/35/18?
Okay I am looking for a set of wheels come spring and I am narrowed down to a couple but mainly I think the Advan RS in 18x9 +29 are going to be it. Anyways I will be running 265/35/18 Bridgestone RE01R's which will be used for daily driving and the track (going to be multipurpose setup). Anyways I want to know if the 9in wheel is optimal for that tire size. I know alot run 9.5in wheels but I dont want to have to do alot of body work besides rolling rear fenders. If anybody has pictures of 9in wheels in that tire size please do post a picture so I can see the sidewall. Any knowledge is appreciated.

According to Bridgestone specs (found on tirerack.com), that particular tire in that size will fit a 9" to 10.5" rim. The "measuring tread width" is 9.5" - that's where the dimensional values given by Bridgestone are measured. If you change it to a 9", you decrease the section width from 10.7" to about 10.5".
I have those tires on a 9.5" rim and the sidewalls are pretty short so you won't get much bulging if that's what you are worried about. I personally would have no qualms about putting those on a 9" rim.

Tough to say - I would venture that a 9.5 would provide a VERY miniscule difference in steering feel and ultimate grip. I mean, very minor - as in you'd have to be a very good driver on a racetrack to sense the difference. For the street, it will not make a difference. Just my opinion though.

I have those tires on 9.5s. I would not go narrower to save modding your fenders. My front fenders are stock and I have no problems with fender interference. Where you will have problems is the fender liners, due to the height of the tires. I cut and worked mine with a heat gun and they are okay except at absolute full lock.

Can you elaborate more on the offsets of your wheels. The reason I wanted to know about 9in is because Advan RS only come in 18x9 and I really like those. I have also noticed the design of the RE01R tends to slope downwards more on the sidewall some therefore making it less square than some tires...would that help at all fitment wise? Anyways bump for some more answers and any pics if somebody has them.

contact a spec...those guys did a lot of wheel testing...im buying wheels now..re30's and they recomend from there testing to run a 18x9 and you will get more performance out of them....little lighter wheel but still back foot print of the tire..it also really depends on the size and TYPE of tire your going with....

So on the 18x9 do they reccomend a 265/35/18. Because I will not go any smaller than that. I am down to 18x9.5 CE28N or Volk RE30 in +34, Advan RS 18x9 +29, or Rays 57 Maxpro 18x9.5 +30 (just haven't heard much about these but they are hot!) Really the Advans are my #1 choice because they fit perfect, no spacers, and are cheaper than the other 3 and I think they look awesome. I just want to make sure the 9in wheel is optimal for a 265/35/18 tire.

You'll be fine running a 265/35/18 on Advans. I run 255/35/18's on my Advans with coilovers and only had to shave the rears.
I play to purchase 265/35/18's when these run bald. 265 are pricey!!!
