255/40/18

Will it fit on an evo lowered with Tein S-Techs? I am looking for a response from someone who has done it, not from people assuming. The reason I ask is people keep saying put a 255/35 on it and Falken doesn't make a 255/35/ in the rt615. I need the most I can get out of a tire for drag racing. I'd do the 245/40, but it weighs more than than the 255 because it's reinforced. So I am stuck here looking at putting the 235 on it if the 255/40/18 won't fit. I just want to hear from someone who has this set up and say yes or no. The wheel is a 18x9 with an offset of +35. The fenders are rolled btw. Thanks.....

You will rub all over the place. Inner fender well in the front. Front and rear fenders. Since you've already got your fenders rolled (you'll need both front and rear done)...you'll just need to get used to rubbing on the inner fender well when you have the steering wheel turned all the way. Other than that, they'll work. Just not an ideal size for an Evo.

Thanks guys for the input, thats what I was afraid to hear. So damn difficult to find a good tire. I may just have to go with the 235 RT615 as it weighs only 25 pounds.

Are you hell-bent on the 615s? There are other comparable...many better...tires that comes in 255/35/18.

Bridgestone Potenza Re040's come in a 255/35/18 size, weigh 25lbs, & have a treadwear of 140 A A.

Yokohama ADVAN Sport (factory tire on all Bentleys) also comes in a 255/35/18 size, weighs 24lbs, & has a treadwear of 180 AA A. this means it will last a lil longer than the tire above & can handle heat better hence the double a rating for traction.

if drag racing is ur thing & u absolutely need to have a tire in the 255/40/18 size here ya go:

Hoosier R6 in 255/40/18 size, weighs 24lbs, & has a treadwear of 40 C A. tread depth comes in at only 4/32" so the tire will last maybe 500-1000miles at the most. it is a slick with 2 grooves in it & that's it.

all information provided from www.tirerack.com good luck

adambl03- definitely not hell bent on an RT615, just trying to find the best tire, closest thing to a DR that will fit and doesn't weight 28 pounds

housedj-1st, thanks very much for the help, but I just looked at the R6 and it is a Road Race tire. The sidewall will be very stiff and I'm betting the RT615 would definitely be better. This is the problem.... I don't need a 255/40, its just that that is what the 615 comes in. If you get the 615 in a 245 it weighs more than the 255 and the 235 is really too small. As for the other tires you picked, lets just say they won't stand a chance

Sorry this does not answer your question but I had to ask:
#1- If you are looking for a drag tire why do you want 18s? Get some stickier 17s, have more sidewall to load, and save weight and gain acceleration. 18" for drag is just a waste.
#2- If you are willing to spend the money on 18" wheels and tires PLEASE do yourself a favor and spend the ~$200 for some different springs!

hokiruu- #1- Try finding a Volk CE28 in black 17x9 and call me

#2- Money isn't an issue and I have never had any problems with Teins
on any of my 4 evo's. I ran consistent 1.5 60's on 18's with them
BTW. Thanks though.........

uhh... no. if he can launch like a bat outta hell on 18's (like the 60ft posted in sig) then he will get more mph in the traps by having the larger diameter wheel up top. common sense tells us that the larger diameter wheel we have the less distance we cover in the same time once motion is initiated...

housedj- Love the E63. I've had some trans problems, but we're working through them. I love everything about the car and the keyless go is awesome. Its fun because I can make the evo a bare bones rattle trap and just get into the E when I want quiet My buddy has an E55 but we haven't run yet and I haven't ridden in it. So I can't honestly say how it compares or how they feel comparitively. I think it comes down to each car and the driver. I've seen a bone stock E63 go 12.4/115. Mine feels more like a 12.80-13.00 car which is fast enough to have fun. It hasn't been beat on the roll yet You'll have to pm me next time your in Miami.

Word. my buddy in Mesa, AZ ran a 12.5 @ 112 on 91octane. thats the highest pumpgas in AZ other than racefuel so evrythiing pulls timing. there's another guy in AZ w/a black E55 that has SLR cams in it running 120+ traps. real screamer. i drove an E55 & noticed the sport mode just a lil too slow for the car's motor. real annoying!

ya we'll have to meet up when i get the fam moved after my 2nd girl is born in april...
