Hawk HPS Brake pads are squeaking.

I just put on a set of Hawk Performance HPS brake pads last month and the front brakes are squeaking pretty bad! They only squeak under light braking. Anyone know what could be causing that? How could I fix that?

Did you bed them properly? Search and you will find out how to do it, or you can read the box and it tells you.

Well I changed them out using a how to guide I found here in the forums. A buddy of mine told me I should use WD-40 and spray it on the rotors. I didnt think that was a good idea so I've not done that yet. What do you think?

High performance brakes usually do squeak on light braking. Sometimes a couple full brake stops from 60 will get rid of the squeak for a while.

o boy....

No, don't spray them with wd-40, tell your friend to go back to school....

On the box, it tells you how to properly "bed" the new brakes.

I'm too lazy and too drunk to search for it right now but it has been covered here alot of times and even if you google it you can find something.

Bedding is pretty much doing 6-8 stops from about 60mph to about 15mph WITHOUT complete stops. When I correctly bedded my brakes I had smoke comming out of them and 12 months later, still no more squeeking.

Cool

No. Shoot Your Buddy That Told You To Do That Wd-40...

try to bed them in again...go to www.stoptech.com and use their bedding process to see if that helps out...

i hope your friend was joking about the wd40 thing...

WD40, you've got to be kidding. You think Hawk pads squeal, you should try the Project Mu Level Max 900's... people and dogs all around cringe and folks in front of you at lights look up in terror in their mirrors thinking you're gonna rear-end them - that's race pads for ya.

Give them time to break in, a lot of the pads have a break-in material on them which takes a while to wear off.

my hawk pads squeek aswell in my RX8, i took it to the dealer and they said that theres plenty of pading and the rotors are fine, they did suggested to spray some break cleaner in there cause dirt can be causing the squeek. but who knows

One thing not mentioned yet...did you put high-temp grease on the side of the pad that faces away from the rotor? Did you reuse the stock shims? If you didn't do either of these, that's where your squeak is coming from.

+1

the shims could have just as much of an impact as the bedding

hmm.. sounds to me like they are sintered pads, meaning that they have little bits of metal in them, thats what squeaks on these light stops, its common in high performance brake pads, i have the same thing on my gixxer
