I'm currently running 235/40/18 but clearly they're the wrong tyre, they were left over from my old 18 x 8.5 rims.
depends on the brand of the tire. but the majority of people on here that run 255/35/18 tires on there 18x9+29 advan wheels have to roll the rear fenders. i personally opted for 245/40/18 falken tires for my advan rgII 18x9+29.

255 is the lowest you want to go with 255. any smaller is dangerous.

Right now I'm running 255/35/18 on my RE30s 18x9.5. The tires are Yokohama S. Drives. Usually when you have as wide of rim (9inch and up) you wanna run wider tires. Japanese tuners usually go with 255/35 setup on their 18 inch rims. Granted, the fender rolling is only necessary if you have aftermarket suspension and riding lower then stock height and the width of your tires/rims. So, if you're running 18s, you wanna get lower profile tires (35s or you can go 40s with stock height) but if you're on aftermarket suspension get 35s because of the lower profile of the tire will help clear your already 1 inch in diameter increase of the rim.

I figure this is a forum to discuss answers to specific questions... so I will ask a similar question as to the previous two. Will a 245/40-18 tire on a 8.5 inch wide rim rub anywhere with Swift springs installed?

Not enough details. Rim offset (and spacers, if any), ride height, exact tire type, and camber all play a part.

However, based off the basics you provided, I'd expect there to be no problems.

Warrtalon, more specifically I was thinking an Advan RS rim 18x8.5 (if anyone knows how these wheels are constructed I would love to know i.e. forged, pressure cast, semi-solid, etc...) with a 245/40-18 size Potenza RE-01R and 37mm offset if its known to fit otherwise just the 45mm and no spacers again unless I could.

I've never seen anyone use 37 or 45mm, so I don't know. Are you sure 45mm is normal? I thought that was for a different car, not the Evo.

I run the same setup as you. 235/40/18 on 18x9.5 wheels.
There is nothing wrong with the setup. There is nothing wrong with running a "stretched" tire on a wheel as long as it is not too extreme.
yes, it is not a common setup for the evo community, however this has been done and is common for the VW / Euro community and the Drifting scene.
I'm not trying to argue what evo's are supposed to do or meant to do, but everyone is subject to their own style.

Don't get me wrong...I love the look of an evo with meaty A048's...but this is just my personal style.
And yes...I've tracked my car before with similar settings for years.

Warrtalon, I pretty sure your right, but researching information on Advan Rims is driving me nuts. Is there an ADVAN wheels manufacturers website? Companies selling the rim seem to have significantly more offset choices for a 9 inch rim (from 22 to 50mm) as opposed to the 8.5. What is the standard offset?

There really is no "standard" offset.
It depends on tire / wheel size as well as how you want your car to look.

A setup that works and doesn't require modification is something along the lines of 18x9 +25 and up (i.e Advan RS / RG2 = GTR face - +29)
You can run 255's 265's...etc...

check out the pictures of what people have on their evos...

Thanks a lot evopoopoo I thought I had seen 29mm now just need to find who sells it... I assume then a 245/40-18 (up to 265??) on Advan RS 18x9 will not rub then?
