235 40 18 on 18x9.5 rims?

I bought a set of rota p45rs from a buddy with an evo, they have less than 200 miles on them. He had a brand new set of 235 40 18 cooper zeon tires lying arond so he used those.. The rims were sitting around for 6 months because he didnt like the color on his red evo so he bought rota d2s with falken azenis

now that i have these my question to you is it okay to have such a small tire on the rim? id love some 255 35 18s but cant afford new tires and fender rolling quite yet

Whats your offet? I think theres going to be a hell of a rubbing issue with these wheels. I'm running 17x9.5 +38 RPF1 with 255/40/17. No issues whatsoever.

No, that is not good at all. The tires are way too small for that size rim (width-wise), plus a 235/40 is SMALLER than stock. I can't believe he put those on there.

Honestly, if you can't afford tires for your Evo, why do you have one and why are buying 18" rims for it?

He should be fine unless he puts on big meaty tires. The size of the rim doesn't automatically mean it will rub. It depends on the tires mainly, although the offset does play a part (as well as camber). The previous owner had them on his Evo, so you would think they fit...

yea I would say that isn't very smart. I had 235's on my 17x9's and the rim stuck out past the tire on both sides.

There are alot of good tires you can get for a lot less than that!! (Hankook's are one) And they are a pretty sticky tire too!

Are you sure? 18s are much more expensive than 17s. It's tough to get a GOOD 255/35-18 for under $200/tire, and Hankook is a vendor, not a tire. They have tires of all sorts, most of which are NOT good for the Evo. The Z212 or whatever is pretty good, but I'd be surprised if it were that cheap.

Simple solution is to just not put those wheels on until you have the money to mount tires that fit them. Remember it costs money to mount and unmount tires, so doing it twice is not gonna be a great idea.

Sell the tires, save your money, and be patient.

I dont understand why you'd drop coin on wheels and not on tires. You have to pay to play, bro. If you can't do it right don't do it until you have the money. Look at it this way. Would'nt you be pissed if you got a new set of P45R's and hit a pot hole and totally fubarred a rim? C'mon man don't spend money twice.

well i created this thread so that i can avoid ****ing my rims up and the kid i bought these from had the tires mounted on them already and drove them about 200 miles, i have the wheels.tires on the car right now but i decided to keep the car stored away until early april so i can save up money for a new suspension/tires and a new clutch. I also dont pay for mounting unmounting or alignments because my best friend is a tech at a local audi dealership so im lucky i dont have to pay for anything like that...

The wheels are 18x9.5 with a 30 offset and 6mm spacers up front and no spacers in rear

Ive been doing some reading but cant come up with a clear answer if 255 35 18s will work without spacing/rolling in rear.. Also Im wondering if 265 35 18s would be a better choice.. Ive never taken the car to a drag strip but i plan to make one or two trips up to lebanon valley this year. I also have been looking into Auto-x and may do it starting 2009..

Guys sorry to drag this thread up again, but i've got a similar question.

I've just bought some Advan RG2's in 18 x 9 +29, and I want to know if a 255/35/18 will fit without needing to roll/shave the rear fenders? I've got Greddy Type S coilovers, just on an inch lower than stock height.

I'm currently running 235/40/18 but clearly they're the wrong tyre, they were left over from my old 18 x 8.5 rims.
