18X9 or 9.5 lightweight with 265's

I am looking to see if anyone has managed to squeeze an 18X9 or 18X9.5 on the EVO with 265's.

If so, what offset were they, what brand wheel and were there any issues (fender rolling, rubbing on full lock, etc.).

Thanks in advance!

James

Only what is optimum from a handling perspective. I can't imagine much more than an inch.

Check with David of Works Rally they were using 265's on their Works wheels.

If your only concerned with handling I feel 265 width tires aren't needed.

Value,

What do you mean by handling?

Why do you feel that way?

I am only interested in lowering lap times on race courses.

I want to run Kumho Victoracers or Ecsta V700s. The Ecsta is lighter, but 18" wheels are typically heavier and the weight is farther out than a 17". If a magnesium wheel was available and was ligh enough the 18" with a 265 could be as good.

In Ecstas you only get a choice of a 225 or a 265.

It looks like SSR makes some wheels that would work (not the Tire Rack only version).

The Volk CE28 looks promising. The TE37 Mag is extremely light, but only fits in an 18X8.5. Is there something similiar to the TE37 Mag made by someone else in an 18X9? Speedline, Technomagnesio, etc.??

245 tires should more than provide you with enough grip for a AWD car unless you are running a crazy amount of horsepower. Looks like your concerned with weight but running 265 sized tires plus the wider wheels will add weight. A 8.5 with 245 works real well.

Kumho does not make that size in an 18" Ecsta V700 so I am not going to be able to run a 245. I am not concerned with putting power down (with 4wd this is not a problem) as opposed to cornering speeds and braking performance.

I am wondering if anyone has managed to run the 265 on an 18X9. I understand that a 245 would work out nicely if it was available.

Glad you found the evo forum jpgunn. (For those that don't know he's a great driver and the current SM2 national champion) I could've sworn I read your evo was your street car in the SCCA forums Are you planning to run ESP or SM, if ESP the "winch" will have a cow! Is Ted going to race his also?

Seriously track me down at the next SD event, I been asking the same question since March and have hours of CAD time truing to figure it out. I have 255's on 17x9s so you can check the clearance. I think Works is running a too narrow 8.5 rim w/the 265 v700s and from the pictures I've seen it's not lowered. The answer is no you can't run 4 of the same 18x9 rims w/265s w/o rolling the back fenders, in fact people are rubbing using the taller 245/40(45?) KDs -18 w/stock height on the inside rears. Maybe see you next Sunday.

The WORKS car has since been lowered on our prototype coilovers and the 265s are a perfect fit without rolling the fender lips. One nice feature not mentioned about our forged wheels is that they have a staggered look to them, meaning the rear has more lip than the front, giving the car the visual perception of having a wider stance in back (to match the wider looking stock rear fender flares).

We hope to have some more pics up of these wheels on customers' cars soon.

Hmm, sounds like the rear needs less offset than the front. I heard you could run a 9.5 in the front, but that you were stuck around a 9 in the rear.

I am not running my car in ESP (Yet). I think we will make Ted's car the ESP car. Maybe some day they will let the car run in STX.

I have to run Kumhos because they are the best tire for what I am doing. Hoosiers don't last long and everything alse does not have the grip.

8.5" with a 265 is on the small side. Really should be running a 9.5. A 9 is barely enough.

9.5 can be run in the rear if you want too.

OK, so what offset does the 9.5 need to be to fit the rear? Is it the same as the front?

Who makes a wheel in that offset which clears the calipers? Is it a lightweight wheel?

Thanks,

James
