hankook or kumho r compounds?

I need a good set of tires for this coming autox season. I am only looking at the hankook z214 or the kumho v710. Any experience with these tires anyone feel free to chime in.

710s are VERY sticky. I am pondering trying a set of kooks for open track but the 710s are a known quantity.

Kumho 710s are taken by many as price no object over even Hoosiers. Long life, huge stick and easy to drive.

i've used my V710s in 1 autox event so far. They are badass, but with stock suspension they will make you tripod every damn turn. With a good coilover setup that can keep all tires planted they are awesome tires, definitely worth the money and no more ripping up your street tires.

i like them but heard the tire was heavier than the hoosiers. the only thing is i can't find anything about the z214s. the only thing that i found was the overall diameter and the comppunds

I have seen folks use them at track events but thats about it.

The Kumhos are really not all that heavy depending on size and would agree that as you get more and more grip you NEED stiffer and stiffer suspension.

You are going to need to be stiff.

The 710's are known to wear a little faster, the evo isn't exactly a featherweight but it's not too heavy either. Here's the run down-

Long Lasting, slower, shave them - RA1
Good right off the bat, but will fall off in a race or long session, last longer then a R6, but not as long as RA1 or Z214 - 710
Decent at everything, last ok, but not as good as an RA1, but better then a 710, I think a few tenths off a Hoosier - Z214 C50
an RA1 without tread, last *forever* , RA1 speed. Slower then R6 or 710 - Z214 C30

I'd suggest looking at this auto forum search engine for more information like that.

He needs something soft and sticky while cool.

V710 and Hoosier A6 are the dominant autox tires.

Yeah it is for autox only. That's why I was looking at the z214 c70 tire and the kumho v710. I have talked to some of the local autoxers and they said the v710 can last almost a whole seasons and cheaper that the a6 hoosier. I wanted to see if any actively uses the z214s in the c70/71 compound and how good/bad they are. I have seen how dominant the a6 and v710s are but are they any equals or betters out there

I think there were two or three people on Hankooks at Nationals last year. They just can't keep up with the Kumho. The Hoosier has even more grip than the Kumho, but only for about three events, then it starts to fall off. A brand new set of Hoosiers in freakin phenominal though.

Whichever one you go with, it'll feel like an entirely different car.

Since my fitments are wierd, Im going to try the z214's as im not about to drop 2x the money for a tire that lasts 1/2 as long (hoosierdaddy's). Ill be using the c71 compound as I will only be auto-xing and doing TT/time attack. once we get a nice track built out here im switching to the R888

Hankook, i use them perosnally. Auto X you can't heat the tires up enough.

So the basically the Kumhos are great and the hoosiers are better, but if you don't want/can't spend the money and need tires to last the the v710s are the tire of choice?
