255(245)/35-18s on Advan RS lowered on Swift springs, will it rub???

I have an '06 Evolution IX SE. I am planning on purchasing Swift performance springs with Advan RS rims 18x9 with a 255/35-18 Potenza RE-01R tire. I have heard all sorts of things about this set up rubbing and not rubbing. I would gladly size down to a 245 section tire in order to avoid rubbing, but bigger is better here. I really want to avoid rolling the fenders... but if it is necessary with any kind of new rim/spring combination I guess I will investigate, in that case any good how-tos? Someone help a brother out!

I am actually wondering the exact same thing. I currently have 18x9 Advan RS +29 on 255/35/18 Potenza RE-01R tires, and oddly enough they are paired with the Swift springs. Normally I would be able to answer your question. However, my car is going through a motor rebuild and I mounted the rims and tires on the car while it was not drivable. I will have the car back around April or so, but would like to know if they end up rubbing or not. This way I can roll the fenders now if I have to. Not trying to thread jack, just wanted an answer to your question aswell!

i asked speed element the same question, but i wanted to know if i could run 265. they said 255 will fit no problem. 265 would be too much tire for a 9 inch wheel. im on swift springs as well

Rubbing will also depend greatly on the wheel offset, so you may want to provide more information in order to get an accurate answer

you'll have to roll the rear if anything just a lil bit. i was on swifts b4 but 245/40 tires. if anything you'll be rubbing the fender liner in the front but that's no biggy

You'll rub with a 255/35-18 tire on hard turns if you are lowered. I even have my rear fenders rolled and it still rubbed slightly busting a hard turn. My wheels were 18x9 +29 RGIIs which is basically the same as the RS and I was lowered on swifts. There are some guys that will swear you won't and that's all fine and groovy but in my case it did so believe who you want to.

I use Advan RS 18X9 with a 35 offset and they are fine with 255/35/18 Pirelies. Yout offset being 29 meas that the same tyre combo will rub.

I then went to Toyo 265/35/18 on the same mags and had to trim the rear fenders. Nothing touches and im very low as its a track car. I even have 10mm spavers on the front to improve turn ins and it soes not touch the fenders.

But...and the magic but...this does not mean all cars are built identical.
so yours may touch....

Okay this sounds like a case by case thing for this set up... I dont like to cut things close so can anyone recommend a GOOD how-to page? Or at least does anyone know about how much this will cost at a reasonably body shop?

this has a lot to do with the type of tires too

all tire companies diameters vary at the same tire size

with +29 offset you might rub in the rear slightly but the front should be fine

again all dependent on the tire and alignment specs

Yes....a 18X9 +29 Advan RS or RGII will rub the rear fenders, BUT it also comes down to what kind of camber and what size tire your running.

I mounted a set of 18X9 RGII's wtih 255/35's on my old Evo with Tien S-Tech's and it would only rub on bigger than normal bumps. I put coilovers on it and it was rubbing even worse while sitting higher. I had to get the rear fenders rolled cause I didn't want to run a bunch of negative camber.

You can get by with 245's, but just like you said, you can run more.

Ok heres a definitive answer. Im running swift springs on 18x9 Advan RS +29's. Also running the RE-01R's, but in 245/40/18. They rub. Even that combo does. Granted they only seem to rub if I take a turn REALLY hard, or if I have people in the back seats, but they do. Rears only on hard driving though. My front rub only when reversing and full lock on the wheel, they scrape the inner wheel well but nothing major.

The 255's Im sure will be worse, but if you roll or cut your fenders they should be fine. I plan on rolling mine soon.
