I did notice in the X forum where people are showing off their cars that someone was trying to sell their aftermarket wheels from their 8 and could not sell them so they put them on their X.
I guess that comes close to answering our question but not 100%

Gotta love it when I go through a ton of trouble to source a nice set of 18" 12 spoke wheels for my VIII, and then 
releases the X with ... 12 spoke wheels. 
... and as ghey as they look on the X, they do look good on the IX.
