255/40 on Stock Wheels

I've seen post after post of those that have run 255/40's on their stock wheels without any problems. I just bought a set of stock VIII wheels with intentions of putting R-Compound tires on them (Kumho Victoracers) for the track and thinking I'd like a wider contact patch. I know that installing 255/40 tires on a stock 8in wheel is "not recommended," but has there EVER been ANY instances of ANYTHING happening to those that has done it? I don't want my damn tire flying off at the track?

Thanks!

PS: I've also never heard of any clearance issues either running a stock ride height, but MAY install some WORKS springs (or something of the sort) in the future. Will there be any clearance issues at that point?

I'm running it on swift springs. Not a problem whatsoever with 255/40/17 Falken Azenis.

(on stock 17 double-spoke Enkei's)

I ran 255/40 Victorracers on stock EvoVIII rims with absolutely no issues for autocrossing in A-Stock. You will be fine.

Just remember that as you adjust the suspension pieces to alter ride height, camber, etc. you will need to make sure all is well. I doubt you will have much trouble with 255/40's on stocker rims as the A-Stock tire size of choice is 275/40's with as much camber as possible.

How do our cars come stock in regards to alignment? Toe/Camber? What amount of adjustability is there, if any?

Ideally 0° Toe and as much negative camber that the suspension will allow is best, but is there room to move with the stock suspension?

Stock alignments are all over the place. Even a brand new EVO probably needs an alignment.

With stock suspension you probably wont get the right amount of camber to run a 255 R compound. I couldn't even get -2* up front and with bigger stickier tires you should run -3*. Also .... 255 stickies is pretty much pushing the limits of the stock suspension.

** Do you know of any early Grattan/Gingerman track days?

As a matter of fact, a buddy of mine just said that 3BallsRacing will be doing an event in late May I believe May 30th at Grattan for $150 (which we know is a STEAL for that course). If I have my car together by then I may sign up for it.
