Best Performance Tire vs. Price

I am looking to change my summer tires with performance driving being the main selection criteria. The catch is that as all 'extreme performance' tire choices have to be specially imported to my country, there is considerable price difference between these and max performance tires. Choices that are considered are listed below (could not find an importer for Neovas):

Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R: $480
Dunlop Diezza Sport Z1: $358
Michelin PS2, Pirelli P Zero, Goodyear F1 Asymmetric, Yoko Advan Sport: $275
Bridgestone Adrenalin P001: $244

Taking prices in to consideration, the most realistic choice is between Diezza Sport and the pick from the rest (Michelin PS2, Pirelli P Zero, Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, Advan Sport, Bridgestone Adrenalin).

Do you think the Dunlop Diezza's are worth getting over the rest of the pack? (main selection criteria is street performance)

thanks in advance

Azenis. They don't even come close to the RE-01R or the Neovas.

Of the ones the OP mentioned, the Bridgestones or the Dunlops are the best bet. The B-stones are proven, the Dunlops are somewhat of an unknown, but early testing has shown that they have potential. Don't bother with the rest of the list.

BTW, are those prices per tire? If so, that's freakin ridiculous.

Unfortunately they are per tire prices. You don't even want to know how much the car costs You guys in the US are lucky regarding motor vehicle taxes, etc...

I'm running the Z1's right now, and someones going to have to make a really great tire, maybe the new RE-11 before I change.

Thats not true. The Falken 615s are a very good replacement tire, and at $122 each for 255/40/17s compared to $245 a tire for 255/40/17 Neovas i'd say they are well worth the money. And at 255 width and the right tire pressure you won't be able to tell the difference in day to day driving.

NOW, back to the topic at hand. I'd take the RE-010s if you have the money to spare, if not then go witht he SP2s. Provided they are lacking compared to the stock advans in some areas, they are still great tires.

How much is the stock advan out there?

So far I haven't found a not R-compound tire that functions like the stock advan.

My vote is for either the RE-01R's or Dunlop Z1's. I prefer the B-Stones over all the extreme perf tires we carry.

thanks for all the replies so far. I did some research on lancerregister tonight. Tomorrow I will also try to find out if I can get potenza re-11 or toyo r888 and post prices on here for further comparison.

The Falkens are a very good replacement tire, and for the price they give excellent performance. But from a strictly performance standpoint, they aren't competitive with the 'Stones and the Neovas. If you want confirmation, go look at the SCCA Nationals results from last year. 7 out of 162 people were on Falkens (the rest were on Bridgestone and Yokohamas, with a couple of random Kumhos in there), and five of those seven were on Civics. The other two were on Acuras who finished DFL and next-to-DFL in STX. Exactly zero people ran them on Evos. Not to mention, the OP didn't have them in his list.

Performance in the 140 UTQG world, for now, goes like this (for a heavy car like the Evo):

Yoko AD-07 > RE01R > Direzza >> Azenis > everything else. The new Toyo may fit in there somewhere, but I haven't heard any reports from people testing them. It's looking like the Direzza and the RE-01R are pretty close, but like I said earlier, the Direzza is still somewhat of an unknown at this point.

I have had:

Stock Advan's - loved these
Nitto 555 - yuck!
Azenis 615's - works great!

I liked the stock Advan's the best, but at $1400 for 4 - way too much $$$ - especially where they were gone after about 11K.

I got my RT-615'2 255/40/17 delevered for about $725.

Pleased so far.

I would have got Neova's ....but the cost is outrageous

I have Azenis 615 and for street driving are fine but on hard cornering they break loose out of a corner

I have heard really good things abou the Bridgestone RE-01R and I am gonna use them when I need to get new tires.

I have used both Michelin PS2 and Bridgestone RE-01R and I prefer the PS2, but the 01R comes a close 2nd. It you are running a more negative camber and do DD don't get these tires as they would be a waste.

BTW I don't know where your getting your prices. I got my RE-01R's for $1050 and got my PS2's for $1000.
