I do not like that tire I had them on for 8k now and they are nothing close to the stock tires. Lot of people will tell you it's just as good, but hell no. Not crisp at all and I will not get them again.

I have about 3k miles and 1 autocross on them. They have pretty good grip qualities, but I wore a lot out of them in the first autocross. They heat up quick, but towards the end of your runs, they over-heat a bit and tend to lose a little grip. I don't expect more than 3 more autocrosses on them.

But for around $400 a set (You shouldn't be paying for much more than 400 for these tires or you are getting ripped off), they are a good tire.

I think after they wear out I will get a set of track wheel/tires and keep getting these for DD.
400 bucks would be cheap since I'm getting 245/40/18's...but let me know where you've found a good price!

well sir they are rated at a 200 thread life, meaning that you should get 20,000 miles out of them. You can also head for the falken 452's they are rated at 30,000 miles.

452's won't even come close to RT615s in performance and I think one would be disappointed

I just got my rt-615's mounted today. 255/40/17 on stock BBS rims. All I have to say is that they look like they were meant for the rim. They don't buldge at all. Vulcantire.com was cheap but they are not the cheapest. I went to onlinetire.com and found them for $119 a piece. I then went to discount tire and brought in my print out of onlinetire.com and they price matched them. I had them bought, mounted, and balanced for $567 out the door. You can't go wrong with that!

Personaly I wouldn't waste my money on the Falken RT-615. IMO they're junk when your looking for a performance tire. In your case though they would make a great value play. Since you're looking for 245/40/18's. The falkens at 144 per tire are a great value compared to the RE-01 at 225 and the D1 at 177. All the tires weight the same at ~28lbs so no advantage there. The difference would be in the comppund of the different tires which I'd say the RE-01 then the Z1's are the best.

Anyways good luck choosing your tires. In general I see how it would be hard to pass up on the RT615 for the price but since I had a set before I'd 130 for the Z1's. That's me though.

Good Luck

Sad thing is if your looking for performance the 225/45 would have been a better choice. Reason is the 225/45 has the same contact patch as the 255/50 but weight ~2 or 3 lbs less. I've seen the 255/40/17 on a 17x8 rim. They look ok. To me they look like they are buldging but not that bad. For some reason I have a very keen eye to detail in certain situtations. hehe

Thats a great deal.

Do any tire shops in the Northeast price-match?
