Falken rt-615 Treadlife?

Just like the title says...I'm between these and Sumitomo HTR Z3's. 245/40/18, but I don't want to be replacing tires after 10k miles.

They will be only used in the summer time here in Michigan, and I'd like to get at least 2 seasons out of them, somewhere along the lines of 20k miles.

Is this possible with the 615's? I'd really like to go this route as I've heard these are great tires, just worried about the treadlife. Could someone chime in that has had these and how much life they got out of them?

Thanks!

Well they are molded to 8/32" so they will already have less tread than most "extreme" tires that are molded to 10/32". If you don't want to replace tires in 15k or less then a 180-220 UTG tire probably isn't up your alley, but it all depends on your driving.

RT615's you can eat up two sets almost for the price of one set of Neova AD07's.

Thanks for the help...I don't plan doing a lot of autocrossing, if any; so I think I'll be going with something else.

Too expensive for my budget at the moment.

If you wait til early april the new direzzas should be available. Should only run you 20 or so more than RT-615.

Any more input on these?

I know there are TONS of people on the forum that run the 615's. Please comment if you have some experience with them!

i have these in 240/40/18, have had them for 15K miles. They are just about done treadwise but they are an awesome handling tire. They are a horrible drag tire, stiff sidewalls and they weigh 26.5 lbs a piece. I will probably switch to the sumitomo HTR 3 because they have been testing really well, weigh 24.3 lbs a piece, and i like to drag race all the time, only once in awhile do i get to road course it. Not to mention they are a little bit cheaper (although it's only about 120 dollar difference between them)

I've had RT-615's on my Evo 8 for about 9k miles and they look to last another 4-5k at the most. My driving is on the open highway for the most part so I don't think I'm too hard on the tires.
If you expect to get 20k out of your tires then you might look elsewhere. On my E36 M3 I've had two sets of Goodyear GS D3's that have lasted more than 20K each and I've been happy with them so they might be an option to consider.

Don't know what kind of setups these others are running, but I got over 30K miles on my 615's including about 16 autocross races and several trips to the drag strip.

Key is to get an alignment and set your toe to ZERO all around. When one end starts wearing the inside edge more than the other, do a rotation and swap the fronts to the rear. . .

for the sake ok this thread, zero toe is the way to go. if you "need" the handling that toe out/in provides, then tradwear should not be much of a concern.

it is possible get 20k out of a set of RT615s, just not likely if you're having any regular launching, turning, braking fun with the car.

I think these tires are overal a good street tire. I never have had nay problems in the rain because I drive safely and not like its still dry out.

I have about 3k miles and 1 autocross on them. They have pretty good grip qualities, but I wore a lot out of them in the first autocross. They heat up quick, but towards the end of your runs, they over-heat a bit and tend to lose a little grip. I don't expect more than 3 more autocrosses on them.

But for around $400 a set (You shouldn't be paying for much more than 400 for these tires or you are getting ripped off), they are a good tire.

I think after they wear out I will get a set of track wheel/tires and keep getting these for DD.
