what is the best asymmetric tread tire?
what do evo owners think is the best asymmetric tread tire? looking for decent grip, nice ride, willing to handle rain when it comes.....oh yeah, not to expensive either.
i have only had 2, the avon m500. i really liked, good grip, quiet, a little bumpy, just thought i would try something different.
i tried the pirelli pzero nero = i took the tires back with ~20 miles on them. they felt scary, imagine driving with a loose wheel or 2
i have bfg g-sports, a directional tire. they were what the tire shop had on the shelf to swap out the pirelli's.
i see there are the falken ze 912's & the yokohama sports. i think micheillin ps2 & bridgstone re50a makes a nice tire, but they are pricey & I go through tires kinda fast
oem @ 9k
m500 @ 17k
bfg @ 15k
thanks for your thoughts.

If you are looking for a good overall tire that is excellent in the rain, you should consider Dunlop Eagle F1 Asymmetric. It was chosen the best amongst the likes of RE050 & PS2 in Evo and Autocar mags (http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Go...Asymmetric.htm)
If dry grip is the main concern, you should consider Dunlop Direzza sports (supposed to be decent in the rain)

I would suggest not going with the underdog when it comes to tires, but going with what fellow drivers agree are great tires for your specific purpose.
Maybe try to find the original Dunlop Z1's if you are very price conscious as they are being liquidated for the new version which is said to only have one difference, it reaches it's performance temp range faster.

I had the Sumi II's on my GTI A2 Hillclimber. Fun tire for sliding around in the A2 but unless I was on an extreme budget, I would be concerned about rolling that tire too much in the much heavier Evo. The sidewall on those are thin, improved on the III, but still thin. Nice forgiving tire on the street and better in the wet than expected. In the wet, it's not too difficult to break all 4 loose on a soft launch from what I have heard.

You mentioned the Falken Ze 912. I bought these for all-seasons when I ordered new wheels. I've got about 12k mi on them now and they've probably got more than half their life left still. I really like these and though its hard to make a direct comparison to the stockers since i got them in 255 width. They feel good in the dry, closer feel to the Advans than I expected. They're great in wet weather, I find myself aiming for puddles just because noting happens, theres no pull on the wheel and little hydroplaning. I'd say they're just ok in snow but thats probably got something to do with the width I got them in. All in all I would definitely recommend them for a good all around tire especially for the price.

If you are on a budget and still want a really nice perf summer only tire, I'd look at the Sumitomo HTR Z-III. Great dry, low cost, rides quiet, and is asymmetrical. Lots have been happy using those.

Nitto Invo, hands down. They are everything you are looking for, price, performance, comfort, road noise, and amazing wet grip. they aren't very mainstream yet, but Nitto did their homework when they designed this tire. People ask about them pretty frequently. They almost look like a semi slick from the outside.
I have been running them for about a month now and , if you couldn't tell, absolutely LOVE them. The design does such a good job of shedding water, it honestly does not feel very different in the rain. Treadware is at 260 and I found one of their auctions on eBay and got them shipped to my door for $728 total.
