Opinions on Yoko AVS ES100 (or alternative)

Does anyone have any opinions on the Yokohama AVS ES100 tires?

I'm looking to get them in a 255/35/18 size as a decent tire for the new 18x9 wheels I'm about to order.

Are they any good? Does anyone recommend another "budget" tire in that size.

thanks

If you care about handling at all, please don't cheap out on the tires.
I made a mistake in purchasing BFG KDW2s due to their reasonable price and the availablilty of the size I was looking for.
However, I have been unhappy about my choice ever since.
Save your money and get the proper set.
Might I suggest you check this thread.

I personally wouldn't go with that tire. The Dunlop dz1 is actaully pretty affordable and probably the best tire for the money out there. If those are too steep I would suggest the Falken 452 or Toyo T1R they are both budget tires and handle very well especially the falken

the ES100's blow imo, soft tire, and tread wear is bad. This was the first tire I bought (5-6 yrs ago) on my first car, hated them.

Dunlop Direzza Star Spec or Potenza RE01R's. Dunlops are cheaper and just as good as the RE01R's.

yea i went from ES 100s to Falken RT 615...

are you sure they still make the ES 100s i thought they were discontinued...?

Anyways I got about 20,000 miles out of them..they were okay for the price but the grip doesnt even compare to the falkens..

I ran a 245/40 on a 17x8 rim with the ES100s

P.S. I auto x'd them and you could hear the scrubbing and screeching of the tires over my TBE

if you're looking for a budget tire, the sumitomo htrzII ranked well in a tirerack test. i believe you should be able to get them for < $100

The Sumitomo HTRZII will be cheaper than the ES100 and have slightly better performance, the HTRZIII will have way better performance and probably similar pricing. I autocrosses with my III's yesterday and was quite happy with their performance.

Good for their time, but I'd also look at something else. Within the same class of tire.... the replacement Yoko S-Drive is a much better option. B-Stone RE 760 is also a strong ultra high perf tire to use.

In a class higher in perf but lower in price.... Sumitomo HTR Z-III and B-Stone RE050A Pole Position are great tires.
