wheel and tire guestions 17x8 17x9 please help

Ok well I have a set of BBS rs 3 piece wheels 17x8 +40 and 17x9+ 43. My guestion is what size spacers will I need to make them fit. I figured about 20mm for the front. 20 for the rear to? And what size tires? I was thinkin 225 45 17 and maybe a 235 45? Im a vdub kid at heart had a rabbit with 13x8 steeles. So please. I tried a 225 45 17 michilen pilot sport 2 on the 17x9, but to much streach. Than i tried it on the 8 and it looked better. So any help would be awsome. kinda goin for this look.

Get those wheels off of that Evo immediatly!!They belong on VW with some kid that has dyed hair-tips and a checkered head-liner.

The stock Evo wheels are 17x8's with a 235/45/17 tire. You can run up to a 255 width tire on the stock 8" wheel. With the 17x9's, I've heard you can run as wide as 275.

These are nice rims! I have two rim sets that I run: 17x9 ET 40 with 255/40 all 4 corners and use a 3mm spacer up front. Also use 17x8.5 ET 30 all 4 corners no spacers & 245/45. No rubbing (stock suspension)

But remember that despite the size and ET values, each rim is different. Your fit may vary.

I dont think it's a good idea to run a staggered setup on AWD vehicles.

You have to be careful with a saggerd fitment on AWD vehicles. If you have a smaller tire in the front than in the back or vice versa you are going to put a lot more strain on the drivtrain and cause failure much sooner. It states in the Owner's Manual as well. If you go with a staggered rim make sure you get tires that will equal out to the same sizes. Good Luck.

Stock Evo wheels have 35-38mm offset. If you want to be correct, run a 2-5mm spacer on the 17x8s and a 5-8mm spacer on the 17x9s. My concern is the wheels not clearing the brake calipers in the front wheels (I had that problem with Regamasters) in which case you might need a bigger spacer for the front wheels. If this is the case I would recommend getting longer studs to be safe. I would run the stock sized tires 235/45-17 on both sets of wheels and run the 17x9's up front. Running two different sets of tires can cause damage to the differentials, no need to chance a multiple thousand dollar repair on something like the way a tire looks mounted to the rim.

I would start you own thread...

We need more information to know for sure, BUT 255/40-17s fit my car without having to roll the fenders. I have a 17x8 wheel with 35mm offset front and rear and I have a Cusco suspension as well.

yea I def need spacers on the front since the wheel hits the caliper. Thats why im figuring on using 20mm spacers all around. And I have arp wheel studs so thats covered. I cant use the 9 on the front, since there bbs rs the 9 has a deeper dish than the 8. I could run a 235 45 17 all around, Im just afraid it would look goofy front to back. What do you think about a 225 40 17 on the front and a 235 45 on the back. I know I dont want the diameter to be diffrent front to back. But I dont see diffrent widths front to back being a problem. Thanks for all the info. keep it comin please

The problem is that the aspect number is a ratio of the width of the tires (It is a percentage of the width, 40% of 225mm for example). A 225 width 40 aspect 17 diameter tire is 225mm wide, the aspect ratio is 40% of the width (roughly 90mm) and the wheel size is obviously 17 inches. If you go with a 235/45-17 for the other wheel you get 235mm, 105.75mm and 17 inches.

90mm does not equal 105.75mm, so they will spin at different speeds. You need tires are very, very close to the same rolling diameter if you are going to run different width tires which can be tough to find. I would stick with the easy setup of just running the same tires front and rear, but style isn't really a big concern for me.
