Motul Fluid OK for DD Evo?

All of the vendors that sell brake packages include Motul 600 fluid with them. I've had this fluid in my car for about 18 months now and it is fine, but should I worry about the fluid breaking down and the water content rising? I have heard that this and other track-specific fluids are more hydrosopic, and ultimately on a DD evo might not be the best choice. Obviously the car does get abused regularly, its too much fun not to, but I don't track it and the most abuse the brakes see is when I'm doing street tuning and do 4th gear pulls to redline, then slow down to cruising speeds and repeat 2-4 times.

Anyways, how bad is it to just run Motul fluid all the time w/o changing it for years on end? I live in MN and the temp is 100* in the summer and -20 or so in the winter. The car is kept in a garage, so it sees full temp changes daily.

Ultimately, should I have been recommended Valvoline Synpower.

Comments, questions, and opinions welcome, as long as they are supported by facts.

ps--my car is an 05 SSL, maxed out IX turbo w/ alky, ~360whp on dyno dynamics. I have Ferodo DS2500's and technifit SS lines all around, about 20k miles on them.

That's a good question. How often should we do a full change-out of Motul? Regardless of whether we track or not?

I've ran Motul in my car for about 2 years now. I personally bleed it before each track weekend and do a full change out once a year.

Flush all the fluid twice a year, or every 3 or 4 track weekends (depending on your caliper temps.) That is how I have done my ATE Super Blue for the past 8 years, works fine. DD'er or dedicated track car same.

I bleed the brakes quarterly (4x a year) and one of those is a complete flush. So: bleed, bleed, bleed, flush -- repeat.

If you're not tracking your car...MOTUL 600 is a waste.

Agreed. If you flush it regularly (every 6 months or so) it won't hurt anything, but its just wasting time and money since you'll never heat the brakes up enough on the streets to warrant such a fluid.

I think the reason most vendors include it with the brake packages is due to popular demand. Too many people are convinced that they need "the best" race stuff for their street car when a lot of the time that stuff wasn't designed for anything but the race track (think Neo tranny fluid and Redline Shockproof drivetrain fluids).

Again to those that included track events in their bleeding schedule. I do not track the car. How is it a waste? Please be more specific if you actually know why it would be wasteful. Does water build up in the lines? Does it perform aweful on the street?

I ask this because I have it in my car, it works fine, and I have no complaints about it. Basically, give me a reason to not use it.

Yeah, its a waste because you don't heat up the fluid enough on the streets to warrant the use of the MOTUL 600. Not only is it a waste of money, but the MOTUL 600 is more prone to water accumulation if left in the lines for extended periods of time udner certain conditions. This is not to say that water will accumulate in the lines if you use MOTUL or any other racing brake fluid, but the chances are higher compared to more conventional synthetic fluids. If you bleed it out more often then you really don't have to worry about the moisture build up, but then again, did you really need all that brake fluid headroom in the first place? Nothing wrong with Valvoline synthetic brake fluid for the streets.

Hope this helps.

It's only $15 I wouldn't worry about it.

Motul is fine for a year or two. Most high mileage street cars have the factory crap in it its whole life!

It's fine for street use, it's just that ATE Superblue will last longer.

The Valvoline Syn fluid is just fine for a street car (run it in my own when not running the ATE). Anything more than ATE Super Blue in a street car is pretty much flushing money down the drain.

Here is an example of what may occur when some Dot 4 fluids are used under extremely severe conditions:

Here is what the OP said: "the folks at Brembo told me that the Brembo brake fluids, the AP 600 and the Motul did not have this problem..."

It's all about choosing the right stick for the fight... I mean seriously, you don't take a Saturday Night Special to an open field for an Assault Rifle fight. However, by the same token, you don't follow someone into a bathroom stall with an Assault Rifle.

The Valvoline is more than adequate for the daily driver/auto x'er. Anything more than that steps you up to ATE for light to moderate track days, then on to the big boys for those running "Brown-bos".

I have been daily driving RBF600 for about 4-6 months now, with about as many autocross events and one mild tracking day with it. Is it a waste? Maybe. Do I care? No, since my company sells it and it's cheaper than other fluid from the store. More importantly, it seems fine.
