If I didn't have any suspension at all and needed something new I would say go with the Bilstein HDs or a set of low mileage MRs which are hard to find now that they are 2 years old. But if you already have a good set of KYBs just run them and call it a day until you want to move up.

I've got the MR Bilsteins on now and I was expecting them to be stiffer, the stock KYB's/springs were stiffer than the MR/Swift spec-R's. I'm not looking for a horrible rough ride I just figured that the MR's would be better matched w/ the Swifts, I'm starting to wonder now. I figure I'll give it a few weeks and see how I like them, if I don't I will go to the Swift/KYB's and see how they ride, I'm don't even know how that will ride because I bought the MR/swifts from a guy already set up.

swift matches the spring to the damper. both the kyb's and the bilstiens should be matched perfectly to the spec-r assuming you got the right spring. I had to order the mr specific spring when I bought my swifts. do you think that because the ride dosen't feel stiff your dampers and springs are sloppy and hurting your handling? this is simply not the case. the swifts are progressive rate springs. I ride on this combination everyday and love it. ride quality is smooth and the bilstiens soak up bumps very well. lots of people track on this combo too with great success. i've seen many people switch to MR/Swift but never seen anyone trade the Bilstiens for KYB's.

^ The different spring rates for the MR is a bunch of crap. You won't notice the difference.

Really? Why would Swift market a MR specific spring? And why would GTWorx make me specify exactly what model evo I had when ordering?

Y an MR specific spring? Perhaps because if they didn't, people would question if they are getting a tailored solution to their specific suspension? GTWORX is just giving you the best matched spring since it was an available option....but I doubt they stated you'd notice a difference.

I got a great deal and am rocking IX Bilsteins and love them. My IX RS KYB's were noticeably stiffer and for the record I haven't noticed a downside yet to my current setup.

^ Don't get me wrong, I got what they're saying. I'm just wondering why Swift would waste time and money packaging and marketing essentially the same spring under 2 different applications. One would think if they took the time to do r&d and market 2 versions of a spring for two different dampers it would be for a good reason. But maybe they are just selling piece of mind...

Well, Swift does so we sorta have to if you order them from us.

But really, it's not too big a deal either way.....I certainly don't see a problem exactly with offering a version for both and it probably makes people feel more comfortable (piece of mind as you said). And hey, that's worth something.

not to change the subject, but how about over the 3: stock KYB's, MR Bilsteins or the Bilstein HD's?
I've got the stock KYB and swift Spec-R and im not sure if I want to go HD's or not.

I got a set of bilsteins for my RS, and they lasted 5 minutes on my car, as soon as I went back to the shop I installed my KYB's back. I was lucky enough to have a friend with an evo 7 buy the bilsteins so I didn't loose any money, but I definately felt the bilsteins softer. With the KYB's I am more confident when driving aggresive and taking hard turns.

definitely lots of good debating this thread...i've decided on buying an extra set of kyb's and i'll throw the swift spec-r's on them

one more question...i know the gsr spring rates are slightly different than the mr rates. they're both the same price so i'm not losing anything so should i get the gsr spec-r's or the mr spec-r's?

thanks a lot guys

used to have bilsteins... i sold it for a grand and bought coilovers. after 3 years, the coilovers went... so now im using kyb struts from an ix with swift spec-r springs. i forgot how the bilsteins felt but im happy with the kyb/swift setup.
