Brake Job
I have about 35K on my Evo 8 and my brake light keeps coming on while driving meaning that it's time for a brake job. When it comes to a brake job do they do replace the rotors and pads or just pads?
I've searched but can't find anything.
Also does anybody know how much it'd cost. My car is out of warranty so I can go aftermarket. Anybody know if going OEM or aftermarket is the way to go? Also the cost? Any recommendations?
Thanks

At 35k, you shouldnt need new rotors, just new pads unless you feel the pulsation in your brakes due to warped rotors. If they are warped you can get them turned. I swapped just my pads on my car with Hawk Pads which was like $150 bucks to do it myself. Brakes are a fairly easy job, so if you can do it yourself its worth saving the money. Most places charge an arm and a leg for something thats pretty easy and straight forward.

You have more issues than just a brake job. The brake light should not come on unless there is a fault. You'll need to take it in to get the codes read. OBDII wont cut it here. You need the MUT reader.
Rotors are a maybe. You will need to micrometer them out to see if they have enough meat on them. The minimum thickness is written right on the rotor hat. If you need new rotors get RotorPro blanks from MAPerformance - $250 for all four.
Pads - probably. I strongly strongly disagree on the Hawk HPS pads. They were terrible on my car. I would recommend GranSport GS5s or GS6s, PerformanceFriction Z's, GiroDisc Magics, or the DS2500s.
Hawk makes a great track pad, I run the HT10s, but their HPS pads were terrible on my Evo. Lacked bite and ended up glazing over to the point of being mirrored within the first 3 months of having them on the car. I went back to my GranSport GS5 - way better (higher bite and modulation) and very reasonable prices.
Proper pads will run you around $250-300 for all 4.
Total parts: $250-550. DIY the job.
