its common for pad material to start chunking away when they get thin like the pads in your photos.. if you run fairly aggressive street pads Id recommend checking them out more often than every 2 years (assuming use since 07).

Just a quick post in response to Nils, PVD and Smike
I do check the pads pretty regularly and the inside pad usually goes a little quicker than the outside but if the outside pad has more brake material left than backing pad, which was the case in this situation, Im not going to check the inside pad by removing it.
Also, I never said I haven't checked the pads in 2 years. I said the car hasn't seen any road course for 2 years so its not as if they've been overheated.
