G'day everyone,

EGbeater, good feedback on the ROCK and heat shields. Just a reminder to everyone that the biggest heat threat to the ball joint boots comes when stationary after hot laps. The lack of air movement allows for direct heat soak from the rotors and can be made worse with steering lock. Even worse is raising on jacks as the wheel droop tends to bring the ball joint closer to the rotor again.

Not sure what the circumstances on US tracks but ours allow for slow speed cool down drives around the pits after hot laps. Even a few minutes can bring rotors temps down by 200 deg C.

Hope that helps

Cheers

If I was to just remove the ball joint heat shield, does the whole lower arm assembly need to be removed from the car?

Or can the lower arm and knuckle connection nut and bolt be removed and maybe a couple of other connection points loosened to allow the ball joint to drop down enough to slip off the shield?

Same for those just wanting to replace the whiteline boots with the standard boots I guess....does the whole assembly need to be removed?

Thanks in advance.

Should be able to just remove the one bolt/nut from the knuckle, have both front wheels off the ground so the sway bar has no tension on the A-arms.
