I have 255s on my BSS too, whats your point? And 255 on 9.5 wide isn't really a stretch if you looked at the Neovas I have on my car now. Some tires run wider than they are advertised. Although I will admit its a stretch on the 10 inch wide, it will not look anything like the VW guys. I would run 285s if I could, trust me. I've even been offer 315s if I could fit them.

Have you looked at 275 tires? They are IMO a better match for the wheels you're looking at and should fit without too much trouble. What are you using the wheel/tire combo for?

Mostly for autox. I have looked at 275s. The only reason I want to run 255s first is because I have a set that would last two more seasons. That would allow me to save money and get slicks later on.

If you are saving for wider, more appropriate tires for 10" wheels; I say go for it since 255's tires altough streched would mount on the wheels but you would still need to roll/pull the fenders and some decent camber to avoid rubbing. The 10" wheels will give you a lot of options in the future 275, 295 and even 315 tires, if you're up for the challenge.

I was thinking of getting a set of 17x10 +18 offset all around for my evo 9....

would that fit?

what would i need to do:
1- roll the fenders yes/no?
2- cut the fenders yes/no?
3- need spacers yes/no?
4- need wheel studs yes/no?
5- need open lug nuts yes/no?

and what kind of camber needed, personally i love -3 to -4.5 for autocross

When cambering the wheels out to -3 or -3.5, does this noticeably shorten the life span of the tires?

Biggest question - What tires are you running? a 235 is a lot different than a 285.

1- Yes you'll need to roll, probably completely flat if not a slight pull
2- Most likely if you want to run any sort of decent tire. I had to trim my rear jdm bumper/fender seam to run 255/35/18 on my +20 after rolling flat(I also only have -1.0r camber)
3- Depends on wheels
4- No but only if you want to run spacers
5- Only if running spacers on extended studs

Why on earth would you want to run such negative camber for an auto-x car??? Excessive negative camber will not make your car handle better. But if you some how get -4.5 camber out of your rear, hell you might not need any fender mods
Yes this will considerably shorten your tire life. Even when properly aligned and a little toe-in is added to try to even wear your going to wear substantially more on the inner edge.


To OP, your tire setup needs to match the aggressiveness of your wheel setup. 255 isn't that bad of a stretch to start. Tire prices for 17's are ridiculously cheaper than 18's so I can understand going with them. Even has made me think about switching. All manufacturers have different widths though. The 255 Star Spec Z1's on my 9.5"s are flush with the edge of the rim. 275's should look delicious
