mr blistein revalve question

i just bought a set of MR bilstein's and im thinking about getting them revalved for the swift spec-r's. so i just have a couple of questions:

I know the springs ramp up to the final rates of 358 lbs/in (f) and 380 lbs/in (r) really quickly, so thats what i would like them re-valved at.

looking at the order sheet from bilstein, they have a spot for rebound and compression. do i put the rates in both spots? or just one? and if so, which one?

thanks

Use the final rates for the re-vavling.

Bilstein has the figures worked out for comp and rebound. Shoot them a call before you ship. They were on top of it when I did mine.

Yeah give Bilstein a call and ask for their recommendation. You don't put the spring rates on the order form, you give the valving specs. Bilstein rates their valvings in Newtons of force at the speed of 0.52m/s (actually, they drop the last digit). So a 300/150 valving is 3000 N at 0.52m/s on compression and 1500 N on rebound.

I'm an Evo noob so I don't know what the motion rates are in the rear, but the front is McPherson so you will probably end up somewhere between 300/100 and 400/200 for those spring rates, depending on how stiff you want it.

I have the same springs on my Evo, and MR Bilsteins but I'm not sure if they were revalved.

Bilstein makes great stuff, but expect to have to wait at least a month after your shocks arrive at their rebuild center before they are done with them. Don't expect anyone to call you back if you leave messages wondering where your struts are either :-\

yeah, ill call them. i dont expect a fast turn around time. i just figured that since they are already off of the car, i might as well get them rebuilt/revalved.

i dont plan on getting coilovers, so i might as well get the best performance out of this combo that i can.

Let us know what they recommend for valvings when you talk to them, I'm interested. On another car of mine I went with 350/175 with 350lb/in front springs, the car is about the same weight just a couple hundred lighter.

FWIW I found out from the previous owner that my car has stock MR Bilsteins, not revalved, and they damp the Swift Spec-R springs very well.

I guess now the question is: what can one gain from having their springs and struts specifically matched?

Meaning other than getting brand new struts from the rebuild, what changes is the handling dept will you get from the revalve?

Like I said, I plan on trying to get into autox big and possibly track days if scheduling and money permits, and I do not want coilovers

Hopefully others will chime in with more experience, but for just the Swift Spec-R springs, I doubt you will see much benefit from revalving. My car is firm but not bouncy at all. On roads where some of my other cars will get really unsettled going over dips and bumps my Evo just goes right over them with confidence.

I had my front MR strut revalved or rebuilt to stock. I blew/broke something internal at willow springs when clipping an apex too tight and smashed through a hole in the dirt. Bilstein was pretty quick for the job, and returned my calls quickly. Also ended up emailing the guy in their support and also got quick replies. So, it is possible, but maybe I just got lucky. I also hand delivered my strut to save some time, because I live an hour away. I dropped the other side off to check it, and that was free, but the rebuild was 90 bucks.
