I personally chose the Dunlop's over the Blizzak's because of the performance on dry as well. The speed rating on the Blizzak's and handling in dry isn't that great. I'm not saying that you will need it, but after a snow, the highways and roads get cleared pretty well, so you have to take both into account.
It just matters where you live and if the roads are snow covered all winter long. Either way, getting a dedicated snow tire should be night and day compared to all seasons.

Got the Generals on today. It was really cold out but no snow. The tires i had on before them were re01-r's so the ride home was kind of scary. They are not too too bad in the dry though. When we get some snow ill report back.

I'm rocking the Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D on OEM Evo VIII's and LOVE them.
I'd definitely recommend them to people.

Another positive review for the General Altimax Artic. Have them on my wife's '03 Civic and my '97 Subaru Outback. They're surprisingly quiet on the Interstate for such an aggressive tread pattern, but I'm not sure that would hold true in Evo sizes. Seem to have as good as grip as the Michelin X-Ice Xi2 tires I have on my Evo at a far lower price.

I have considered looking at a couple 215/50R17's.. less surface area, more pound per square inch.. should be a good winter tire, overall diameter and rev per mile are about the same as OEM... Is everyone else sticking to 235/45's? or shifting from that? Thanks. I know this isn't quite the place, but General also makes an Altimax HP that is a grand-touring all season tire. 2 notes on that one.. 1) bad in snow.. period, and 2)relatively little dry grip as well. (have them on another vehicle).

215/50/17 will fit on 17x8 rims barely. I was contemplating this size. The Kumho KW19 comes in that size and it also a good looking aggressive tread snow tire.

I decided on 225/45/17. I have to say that I'm glad i didn't go down to 215. The car is squishy enough cornering and at high speed on clear roads compared to my 255's. 215/50's would only make that worse. 225's do great in the snow so far. 215/50 could be better in the snow but you have to ask yourself how much handling you're willing to give up for marginally better snow performance compared to 225/45.

When I had my Evo VIII I ran a set of 215-50-17 Dunlop winter sport M3 on a set of stock wheels and they worked great.
This time around I decided to go more aggressive and chose the General Altimax Arctic in 225-45-17 and am more then happy.
After one season with them they still have tons of tread left and I see plenty of dry roads here in MI.
I think the only thing better then a set would be a set with studs to make winter your bish.
