You need a compressor to take the stock springs off, but you can put the rear springs on without a compressor. The fronts maybe, but just use a compressor to be safe.
A guy who works beside me used to lay the strut on the ground, put his foot on the base of the strut, point the top away from everything, and just zip the top nut off with an impact gun. Easy, fast and amusing.... but dangerous

As you loosen the rear top nut you will feel the spring come loose, the front however will have a ton of pressure on it. Compress it enough to take the pressure off, then remove the nut. *Make sure you mark 1 of the top bolts and it's position on the car so when you reinstall the assembly it goes back in the same exact way.
