First of all you want 255/40/17's not 45 series. That's way too tall. 255/40 is near the stock diameter and will not rub.

I believe bang for buck, for summer tires anyway, the consensus lately has been

Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec. only $155 a wheel for wold class street performance.

Of course there's others but they're all more expensive.

Yokohama Advan Neova AD08

Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

I'm looking at picking up these next I think.

The Dunlop Z1 Star Spec and Kumho XS are great performance tires for the price if you're looking for very sticky rubber. If you want to spend a bit less then you could get the Sumitomo HTR Z III which won't perform quite as good but is cheaper and will last longer.

the nt05 is a good tire but does not come with much tread at all and wont last long. i would get a set of the Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Specs and again 255-40-17. they are super sticky. great for autox. good for track days (dont get to hot and oiled up) even sticky and tread water in the rain.

I picked up the new Hankooks ventus v12 evo their cheap so far im happy with them. I use to have the Azensis a couple years back on my other evo. These are so far quiet and have lots of grip.

I have the Azenis rt615's in 255/40/17. I like them. I have no real complaints. They're a grippy tire but do wear fast.

I do hear that they are more yesterday's news now. They were the tire to get about 2 years ago. There's many tires out now that do what they do but much better like the Nitto NT05 and star specs. Amazing if you look at the tire's tread but most of the review I've read rave about the NT05's wet performance. That intrigues me. I drive on wet roads all the time and the Falkens aren't that great in the wet.

Best for price = Star Specs
IMO Best street tire = Pilot Sport PS2

You guys should have a look at the C&D tire test from a few months back. They found RT615 to exaggerate understeer. The PS2s didn't do so well, either. Star Specs finished first, followed by Hankook Evos. FWIW, I bought the Hankooks for various reasons and I'm happy with the tire. Stock Advans lasted ~7500 miles on the street, aligned/rotated regularly, to give an idea as to my usage.

One of the reasons I liked the PS2's over the others was the weight difference as well as wet/dry ability.

I'm with you there. Those were actually some of the main reasons for my choosing the Hankooks. If they hadn't been around, I may have opted for the PS2s. They're impressively light, relative to their overall performance.

Currently on Dunlop Direzza Star Spec Z1 will be switching over to Nitton NT05 once these tires go out

Dunlop are amazing
