MR BBS, 255/40-17, Swift Springs - Will I rub?

Anyone running 255/40-17 tires on their stock wheels with Swift springs?

I did some searching but could not find anyone who has done this on their 17's, only 18+ with different offset wheels.

Your searching failed! =P j/k

That's the size most people run in the summer on stock wheels or any 17's.

Actually the thread you posted doesn't mention Swift springs. Thanks for trying to make me look bad though.

Thanks everyone else for the answers. Now I need to figure out if I should go 245/45-17, or 245/40-17. 245/45 is closer to stock on the tire size calculator, but I have read a few posts about people saying too much sidewall isn't good on this car.

Smike, what size would you recommend with Swift Spec-R, Bilstein HD, and whiteline rollcenter kit. I will be doing occasional track days and this will be my warm weather setup for the street. Dunlop Star Specs.

Stock size.

You will not feel the ultimate grip of the 255's on the street. But you will feel the increased rotational mass.

I ran 245/45 as my AX tire.

MR SE -- BBS Wheels -- Bilstein w/Swift MR Springs -- Falken RT615 255/40/17
Raced a full season like that. No rubbing.

Gotta love conflicting replies. Anyway, I'm going to go with 245/45-17 and call it a day. Thanks everyone.

Some 245/45's have less tread width than their 235/45 counterparts so be sure to check all the specs. This is part of the reason why I went with 245/40's instead.

My guess is it just won't be flush.

I got the swift specr springs on the stock BBS 17in wheel and ran half-tread bridgestone 255/40/17 RE01s and did not rub. I got new Kumho Xtsa XS 245/45/17s and the only thing that rubbed JUST BARELY was the left front on my mudflap(Rallyarmor). No mudflap and they would not rub.

What about the tire rolling over with 255s on 8in tires? I'm looking to upgrade to 255s on my BBSs but I hear that for autocrossing running a wider tire than the rim can handle will cause more rollover and reduce handling ability.

It's true you don't have the best sidewall tension to prevent rollover with a 255 on an 8" wheel. Smikeevo had a good amount of autocross success and he recommends 245/45 above.

If you do more straight line stuff 255 would probably be better. I have to wonder though how much more rotational mass do you have comparing 245/45 and 255/40? Yeah, the 245 isn't as wide but it has that bigger sidewall.

Yea I agree. If I recall correctly smikevo liked the 245/45 cause your gears are a little taller and I'm running that now but I get some rollover so I was thinking either 245/40 or 255/40 this time aground
