I never tried hawks on my evo but I put them on my srt-4 and i hated them so you are not alone.

I'm not a fan of Hawk street pads (personal preference, i don't think they're "bad"), but the race pads are quite nice.

Axxis Ultimates are my favorite, almost as much bite as Hawk HP+ but higher heat threshold.

HP+ bites hardest

HPS is marginal over stock.

Carbotech pads are also good but very expensive.

Running RB ET700s and very satisfied with them. Great cold bite (30*F), little to almost no dust and to my disappointment, they don't squeel!
