what makes my tires chrip?

i want to understand why are my tires squeak/chirp when I am cornering at low speeds. i get that when I make right/left turns at intersection, probably 10-15 mph. My tires are not worn down and my tire psi is to spec...

i have notice that happens to a lot of bigger trucks/suvs when they are inside parking structures where the ground is smooth.

If I push the car hard, I dont hear nuthin'

where do the chirps come from?

Kinda embrassing when that happens...

Maybe they're cold. As they warm up I bet they chirp less. Soft compound tires don't grip right until they're warm, so those slow corners may be chirping/squeaking as the tires warm up.

i notice on my car that it chirps doing the same type of turns at low speeds when the tires go over the paint on the street. Its nothing to worry about, every car i've had has done that. Its just losing a little traction w/ the "slippery" paint surface.

No it doesnt really concern me but I have a hard time understanding why it would slip at such low speed.

is a 3000+ lb car with 4wd and relatively fat tires

There is a speed/distance difference between the inside and outside of the tire in a sharp turn. Same thing as between the left and right side of the car (purpose of a differential) only a lot smaller since you're only talking a few inches. It can make a squealing noise in a parking lot covered with sealer. The fatter the tires, the more it does it.

Thanks Dale, That makes a lot of sense.

Thats why big trucks and SUV with their wide track chirp all the time...

the reason for tire chirp is because there is excessive static friction being put force onto the tires. The excessive static friction basically creates an expolosion of kinetic friction.

If you notice it at low speeds yes, it is pavement sealer that will make any tires squeek. I vallet park and This is a common thing. Also it could be cold tires, but not at those low speeds.
