Inch wider than the oe wheels. Best not to pinch it that much.

As Neal said a 265 is too large for an 8 inch wheel. People have successfully ran a 255 tire on the stock wheels. Personally I think I am going to go with a 245/40/17

the 245-40-17 seems to small. they are about an inch smaller in diameter than the stock size. it would read to high on the speedometer and odometer???

245/45/17 or 255/40/17 are the two sizes for stock wheels upgrades.

It really depends what you are looking to do. With a 245 you can run either a 40 or 45 sidewall. Both have there ups and downs. I am still not set with with what I am going to get however I think I would prefer the shorter sidewall. It should help turn in response at the cost of a couple mph.

Would these rub on anything if i were to use a 17x9 with stock height suspension? '05 RS. Fender rolling surely wouldn't be necessary or would it? I'm thinking of using some 17x9 JIC wheels with a +30 offset and these tires.

What're you using them for? For street/track I'd go with either 245/40/17 or 255/40/17. I've actually run a 275/40/17 on the OE wheels before, but it was only for autocross (that's actually a pretty common combination if you're in stock class)

Go to the motorsports section and read up. Pretty much everyone running an Evo in the Stock Class in autocross runs a 275/40/17 and you're restricted to a stock size wheel. It's been done for years now. I'm talking autox competition only, not on the street or track.

I've been using the 245/40 18's on my evo X wheels with no problems. Def. want to get those things off before it snows, i got caught this year in the snow with them and it was not a pretty sight
